I've heard that Scots were sometimes used on the Midland line although personally I never saw one.

Think they may have occasionally been seen, but they are not much bigger than a Jub compared to a Coronation or Princess Royal.

Obviously didn't spend much time on the Midland Lines then with 1959 allocations including 46100 / 46112 to 16A Nottingham; 46112 Sherwood Forester being allocated the daily Nottingham - St Pancras service titled "The Robin Hood" routed via Corby [ pass 09:10 IIRC ] plus allocations to 14B Kentish Town. 14B received its locos during 1959 and had 46103 / 30 / 33 / 48 whilst later joiners to Midland Lines sheds [ including 41C Millhouses which serviced Midland Lines trains ] IIRC were 46118 /22 / 32 / 37 / 39 / 40 / 42 / 45 / 47 / 51 / 54 / 57 / 60 / 62 / 63. By 1962 the down "Waverley" was regularly hauled by a 55A Scot which worked throughout to Leeds until the turn was taken over by one of the "new" Class 45s allocated to Holbeck for the LMR services out of Leeds.

In addition to the Royal Scots one must also remember the Patriots which also found allocation to Midland depots including 45514 / 22 / 32 / 36 which IIRC were allocated to 41C Millfhouses and were thus regulars on the 12:57 Sheffield - St Pancras via Manton thus calling at Corby [ my local station ] at 16:11.

Interestingly enough the last Midland Scots were actually the pair based at Manchester to work diverted WCML expresses to St Pancras with 46115 being the regular loco on the 14:25 ex St Pancras and 46106 working the southbound service; on a good day the pair would cross somewhere between Glendon Junction and Desborough.

Was referring to the Midland side of New Street trains from the NE to Bristol and beyond.

This trip will bring back memories of the Midlander and Bushbury's fine Jubilee's.

    Cheers Dave

Apologies - didn't realise you were referring to Platforms 7 - 10. IIRC Saltley had an allocation for a short time and I believe occasional Summer-dated workings came from Bristol where locos were changed. In my own observations I recall a Britannia coming on at Bristol in 1965 for a Wolverhampton-bound service and in the early 1960s a visit to Stratford on Avon found 46100 on shed having worked in a special from Nottingham.

Don't know if anyone else has noticed this line in the itinerary.."we have remained true to The Midlander ideals, as this train will run Directly from Birmingham New St. to London Euston".
I'm only speculating but that word directly seems to mean straight down the WCML..another day out for the red GUV maybe.

Too late, 1 trip and maybe you can shake the habit, but two is getting serious, after the third.... well there is little hope you will ever go back to your old ways. Next stage is falling for 6233 even in black. :faint2:
