That's the one we have all been waiting for! And it was worth the wait. Great video and superb soundtrack. Many thanks.

Not even spoiled by the youtube comment someone else posted, that "diesels are good". What? Diesel locos are the reason acetylene cutting torches were invented. (wink)

I spent a few hours filming Lizzie yesterday, what a wonderful sight....and sound.
Congratulations to all involved with the tour and I must say it was a linesiders dream, well apart from the weather.

Anyway my video is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHV9Ii_q20o

A fantastic day out yesterday. 6201 sounded loud throughout the trip.

Of course, the highlight of the trip was the climb up the Lickey with GWR Black Pannier 9600 at the rear. Both 6201 and 9600 seemed to have a contest in 'Who could make the most noise'! On the climb up the Lickey, I can honestly say I have never seen so many photo & videographers along a stretch of railway. The most bizarre linesider to see on the climb was a woman wearing her pink nightie.

What an awesome display on the Lickey Incline with 46201 & 9600 competing with each other to see which could produce the biggest pyrotechnic display! I almost didn't get there though. It seems that my car sat nav has a feature to search out the narrowest, twisting backroads. Thankfully without too much problem.

Hope you enjoy taking a look at my pics including some taken at Tyseley in the pouring rain.

    Some great images and videos posted already, I don't think anyone who was at the lineside on the Lickey will forget the sight and sound. My video from Ashchurch and the Lickey at;

Brilliant railtour, thanks to everyone who made it happen. I've never had a bad tour behind Lizzie and this was no exception. 9600 was fantastic too, slightly disappointed we were near the front so all we could hear was 6201 (not that that was bad), but looking back we could definitely see 9600 was doing something! Any chance we can do it again ? lol

WOW! Absolutely stunning images from yesterday assault of the Lickey. I just sat here spontaneously applauding the footage. My other half thought I was mad but even she had to admit it was impressive!

I really do hope they do it again and this time, I want to be there!

An excellent video, Austin, the best I have seen yet, Thank you very much. Speed through Ashchurch was 72 southbound - it shows!

Thank you for an excellent set of pictures, Clive. As you will see from post 100, I forgot my camera on Saturday but you have provided an excellent set of pictures by which to remember a marvellous day. You are right that the train was accelerating up the Lickey: from 17 through Bromsgrove station up to 26/27 for most of the last mile.

    Thank you again.

    Some great video above.

Here's one from what I feel is the perfect angle! (Oranje River from the other side, for those who remember the sight and sound of 2 x 25NC 4-8-4s restarting a 2,400 ton coal train at dawn!).

I found it on youtube so I assume it is available for public viewing, including via a link here.

What a stunning collection of videos there are out there including one from the start and the various ones from different points and angles on the climb. Well done to all those who made the effort to be there.

I was standing directly underneath (!) the video camera, which was on a high tripod. Here's my still image - but you can still hear the noise...!

The videos are superb, particularly Austin's. My youngest son and I just turn the volume up and watch that one every few hours! All the locos going up the Lickey have sounded great, but I think 6201's assault on Saturday might just be the best so far.

I remember an open day at Tyseley in, I think, 1970. They used to top and tail a shuttle from the shed yard up that fierce gradient through the station and just beyond. On the very last trip of the open day, 6201 was on the head end of the shuttle. The driver really gave her the gun and the sound was unbelievable. I was a ten year old at the time and I can vividly remember the sound and spectacle. I didn't realise that a steam loco could make such a noise and I also remember everyone in the yard turning to watch the loco in awe.

'Lizzie' definately doesn't disappoint in terms of noise. Reminds me of the Severn Valley's 2006 Autumn Steam Gala when she absolutely demolished Eardington Bank on Friday evening running tender first! The sound was beyond unbelievable, i'll never forget that night as long as I live!!!

Some stunning footage from the Lickey; 6201 & 9600 looked to be fighting over which one would make the most thrash!!

Most of the windows were taken by the same people all day, from the moment they got on the train to the moment we got back into Tyseley.
Nothing you can really do about it, but it's the first railtour I've been on where the same people have 'hogged' the same droplight all the way. Still a fantastic tour though and the Midlander is looking very tempting...
