I think GBRf already have a small fleet of Class 73's that would probably be suitable for the task.

Good to see lot's of things happening there. Does anyone know what the arrangement will be for loading the spoil waggons? I guess there will need to be some form of refuge sidings where the train can be marshalled up allowing a couple of waggons to be propelled for loading at the tip face and then made up in to a rake for onward movement. In that tight space it's going to need some planning to get everything done.

I stopped off at East Grinstead on my way home from the Bluebell today to survey the extent of the track laying thus far in the station site. I've uploaded the 4 photos that I took to my Fotopic website.

Great to see the fantastic progress. Am going to try and get over next weekend for the EG Open Day.

A track tamping machine was due to arrive at 7pm on Sunday evening (by road), and all the track work is due to be completed and tamped in the next 7 days (including the track in the platform and the run-round loop).

In the next month, they will run one weeks worth of spoil trains (GBRf - now taken over by Eurotunnel), consisting of about 20 wagons. The train will be split in the Bluebell station platform and 10 wagons taken down to the tip to be loaded at a time. The train is due to arrive at East Grinstead at lunchtime each day and depart at about 4pm.

If it's GBRf, isn't it more likely to be a class 66 than a 73? The spoil trains are going to somewhere near Aylesbury, which I would have thought was not class 73 territory.

We were at the East Grinstead site open day on Saturday and were told that the spoil train would be worked by a GBRf 66. Now let's see what turns up!

Perhaps someone ought to suggest they hire Harry's (HNRC) class 20's like they've been doing for the LU stock moves - using a pair would save the bother of getting another loco down to do the shunting.

Good to see the Bluebell has it's own Fotopic site! Is this quite a recent development? Hope to see regular up-dates, it would be a fair treck for me to get down their but good luck with the project!!!

It's not an official Bluebell site. It's done by a member who lives locally. There are a fair few Bluebell photo sites, including some by staff and volunteers, with updates from only areas that they can access. Plus there's our Facebook where people can upload their photos, ask questions or comment on our news.

    Just a couple of points.
The DOZER is actually a road rail swivel skip dumper.
Could you also point out the laser level on the trolley as I can't see it.
The trolley is a means of extending the measuring base chord line beyond the length of the machine.
From which the operator can apply slews to correct any alignment problems.
However in the platform they should be working to a design level and line scheme.

Sorry Ploughman, they're not my photos. I was merely pointing the fact out that there are new photos out there. You'll be pleased to see that there's now a video of the tamping machine in action (again, not my video - just passing it on for everyone to enjoy).

Not trying to be difficult just trying to make sure the right captions are in place.
Excellent work by all concerned anyway.
Will have to have another day trip down there when all completed.
