Mallard will be pulled to its new home by another engine, Tornado, on Wednesday, June 23, and all over-16s need to do be in with a chance of winning this trip, is visit the NRM and enter their details into a free prize draw to be drawn on Father’s Day, June 20.

Visitors to the museum can also watch engineers make final preparations to Mallard before its journey, on special workshop tours, available from Friday June 11. Tours begin at 3.30pm and 4.30pm.

Sounds like a great prize but, having ridden shotgun on a dead loco before, I'd have second thoughts if I won! At least it is June so it might not be that cold and it will be steam and coal smoke filling the cab and not diesel fumes!

Could do some sweet talking on the day and ask (beg) to ride on Tornado'a footplate instead? (offering a donation to the A1 trust at the same time!)......

When "Mallard" is returned to the NRM, of course! How do you think Shildon are going to keep it cleaned ... ?

I have been told you can manage without if it's a platform to platform run.
