92214 didn't try to sneak into the Up Sidings at Goathland while running around there, did it?

That was where 92220 was based during the land-slip in 1986 for a few weeks, along with 80135. Don't think the Siding got a Shed Plate number mind!

    NYMR Loco Roster page says:

We welcome 92214 for summer service; ready for work from Tuesday onwards.

In service yesterday, and reported as handling its trains with ease, as you would expect!

....Now for that other 2-10-0 on the Moors.......

I suspect you could attach Grosmont to the 9F and it would pull it up the bank to Goathland with Ease

reading Peter Smiths accounts of 9F's over the mendips shows just what phenominal engines they are

A mate of mine is up at the Moors and reports it bounced off the buffers at Pickering and bent its buffer beam. Withdrawn temporarily for repairs so he tell me.

Sorry if this is seen as provocative, but how much longer than a 9F is the headshunt at Pickering?

    Regards

It's provocative, in the sense that you are jumping to a conclusion.

The headshunt is tight with a large loco, but that's not an excuse, and may well have nothing whatever to do with what has happened.

We go in there with large locos all the time, and I hate to think how many times most of us have been in there with a WD 2 - 10 - 0.

One for the railway's management to deal with please.

Hopefully they will share any 'lessons learned' ?

A 9F is quite a bit shorter than an A4, A2 and A1 and they all fit o.k. so that is not where the problem lies!

I feel this really is an internal matter between the NYMR, the footplate crew and the Locomotive owners and, possibly the RAIB. If the answer is simple and has no safety implications for other railways then there is no need for the matter to enter the public domain.

Sounds like there may have been a little bit of over - reaction here....

In fact since I posted this the facts have come into my possession and, while i do not intend to publish them as there were given to me in confidence, I can confirm that there is no problem that needs a public airing.

The locomotive was back in service today so no real damage done either.

There's a very simple lesson from this: If you stir s***, there is a very good chance that you will end up covered in it.

I've received similar information to "Oakfield".

No doubt the Beano will say that 92214 took to the road al la The Titfield Thunderbolt, along with the story that 4472 will be rebuilt with a nuclear reactor, and that 6100 was in a fine state! ;-)
