You could apply a "negative" shine for the weekend !. Did we ever tell you about the time that we mucked up a famous engine with poster paint "as it washes off the next day" - it took two weeks before we got it right again. The owning group complemented us on the standard that the engine was returned. Only another ten years before we can tell the full story !!.

Anyway Hawarden looked its best for the 2nd Shelton charter - took a month and a wax polish to recover from that.

You know that we are quite mad but dont worry you know we are only joking about letting just a thin layer of dirt settle for day or two....

    Ali,

This is how Foxfield gala engines should look, perhaps with the exception of one lovely old star of screen which always looks looks stunning with some nice Victorian TLC. Remember this may be the only opportunity we get to see her play with some hoppers so I am hoping she will look just right!

Pic is of Whiston's last run up the bank in 2006 before withdrawn for overhaul. Hawarden more than helping out. Picture taken by my wife Ali.

    Cheers,

Well, if we dont polish it the Sunday before then she should have time to gather enough grime (with the road trip too) for the weekend. As she is being steamed on Friday too should be ok. It will be hard not too clean the brass thought ;-)

There isn't much brass on an austerity so more time in the bar.

She will look better for a thin coat of grime...thanks!

that's a cracking shot - wagons need a coat of dirt too :0)

I agree, it does need a thin coat of grime

Alex - make sure you issue the NO cleaning instructions to the lads (but don't tell Mary)

Having seen a few shots of her at Swalwell she never looked that dirty mind... bit like 49 at our place - nice livery, normally kept that way. Not all industrials were uncared for, some sheds in the North East were well known for having engines far cleaner than the BR sheds just down the road ever managed, manky Gateshead Pacifics etc for example

A nice covering of grime will make her look like a cared for working engine. She doesn't look particuarly clean in the Book Law book and if the Foxfield five is finished in time she can have a 'tender' again (or perhaps one will be coming with her?).

I am sure it will take a full ten years non cleaning to get to NCB South Wales livery!

There is no way we'd get away with 10 years non cleaning, one weekend is pushing it! I just hope Mary understands :0)

I wonder who that could be Al? It will be hard for her to look dirty even if we stopped cleaning her now!

You have no idea what we could do whilst it is at Foxfield !!!!!

A few years ago we transformed engines with copious quantities of vaseline and poster paint . It looked fabulous

How about no, we dont mind letting her get a bit dusty but she wont be stinking. See the pictures of the other loco at Swallwell, imaculate, and that was the same company, i am sure in its frist year 71515 would have also looked similar.

Too right. Your loco so your say in how she looks. Many people equate industrial railways with minging locos but on some systems the locos were always kept respectable.

Yes but the sleepless nights afterwards are well remembered !!!. Steve N, the mastermind behind the project was not around afterwards for the two weeks it took to clean the engine - snag was it was very hot and the "poster paint" would not come off !.

I wont be doing that again in a hurry...

"Normal " muck is fine by me if Dubs gets to go on holiday one day !.
