South Devon Railway BR (WR) Branchline Gala. 29th to 31st May.

Working timetables now posted. Highlight is proposed return to traffic of GWR 0-6-0 3205 in BR green livery. Also steam engines 5526 and 5786 in BR black. On the diesel front there is D2246, D7612 and W55000. Beer festival at Staverton.

Is D2246 booked to do any passenger work please?

 

D2246 is rostered for demonstration goods trains on Saturday and Sunday only.

 

D2246 works demonstration goods train on the Saturday.

On the Sunday it works one goods from Buckfastleigh to Staverton and then for the rest of the day, and again on Monday will be working brake van rides from Staverton. A return trip on each ride will give around 3/4 miles of shunter haulage. Between brake van rides there is the Real Ale festival, held in the goods shed, to keep you going !!!!

Hopefully see a good amount of people there over the weekend, with the proposed return to service of a unique locomotive, a beer festival, two BR Black locos, some goods train, brake van rides and the 25 on a service train on Monday, should be a good weekend with a nice BR (WR) theme!

 

GWR '2251' 3205. Currently undergoing running in trials to enable it to participate in the Gala. Fingers Crossed.

5526 working thurs with full trains esp party/coach traffic. 5786/3205 both had smoke coming out!!! 3205 looked SUPERB.

5029 should come thru' Totnes on Sat with 6024 "nearby" on Sunday(12m on a HST to Newton A) (btw4277+9 to Kingswear on wed--ace!)

3803 has gone to Toddington. The freshly painted Kitson tank looks v nice in the platform at Totnes. Oh,a new baby owl has been born at "rare breeds farm"

 

Thanks for the D2246 information gents. I am in North Cornwall from Saturday and will be opening negotiations with the female side of the family shortly..!

 

Shall be driving D2246 on Saturday (goods) and Sunday (brake van rides) so be sure to come and say hi. Also 25 very nice ales and four ciders on sale from the goods shed at Staverton.

3205 worked its first passenger train today. Ran double-heading 5526 from Staverton (16.00) to Totnes, and Totnes (16.30) through to Buckfastleigh. It will be out agaihn tomorrow shunting and working ecs and goods trips in order to get things in the right place for the gala and also get a few more miles under the belt.

 

Lucky or what! 11.30 ex Totnes hauled by 5526 + 3205 to Staverton where 3205 was detached. Result-a happy Mr Mason. 3205 hauled our "Wedding Belle" complete with a reception at Staverton station..........

Gala looks excellent!

 

Cheers for the compliments on the Kitson. Alot of hard work was put into getting her spuced up for display and fundraising purposes, just hoping it pays off.

 

Great news about 3205. I've been looking forward to seeing her again. Well done to all on her overhaul.
