    After seeing 6201 last week I was wondering, why do the tenders of some mainline engines make ticking and "tinkling" sounds, for example 6201 and 60163? Apparently they never used to, so why do they do it now? :confused1:

    If it's the noise that I think you are referring to I think it down to Air Brakes . Diesels do it as well

    The automatic moisture drain valves for the air brake system. You hear the same sound on diesels with the engine switched off, definitely on 47's.

    Has anyone ever considered fitting dryers on the compressor outlet, as this would remove the corrosion/freezing issues. I guess squeezing it in would be an issue. From my memory wet air systems are stainless, whereas dry air are carbon steel.
