Over the 30th of July to the 1st of August Crewe Heritage Centre will be holding a weekend featuring two of Crewe Works Steam Giants No’s 6201 Princess Elizabeth and 6233 Duchess of Sutherland which will be at the centre between railtour duties. 6233 will return to the centre Friday evening having hauled The Scarborough Flyer and 6201 will depart the centre Saturday morning returning in the evening after hauling The Cumbrian Mountain Express. Friday and Saturday evening will feature late night photographic opportunities with both loco’s and the centre will open early on Saturday so that people can have breakfast and photograph 6201 as she is prepared for and departs on railtour duty. Both locos will be present on Sunday and in steam throughout the event.

Saturday and Sunday will also feature brakevan rides with the Centres 03 locomotive and who knows maybe even one of the giants? In addition, the centre’s main hall features an Exhibition of Railway and Thematic Material in conjunction with the London Festival of Stamps and the British Postal Museum & Archive. There will also be some model railways and trade stands in the main hall.

It is also hoped that some vintage buses will be present and running along with some traction engines. The centres miniature railways will be in operation throughout and all of the Signal boxes will be open. Keep an eye out for 6100 Royal Scot which is due to have been re wheeled by the event. Who knows what else you will be able to see when you visit, there will be some surprises!

Keep an eye on the Website and Facebook for more details nearer the event.

Re: Crewe Heritage Centre Steam Gaints Weekend July 30th to August 1st.

Again 47192 will not be running.

The loco is suffering from an ongoing problem of a mechanical nature that will take sometime to address and probably quite a bit of money.

Im sure it will be advertised as and when the loco returns to operation

The event should be up on the main Crewe Heritage Centre Website and also on the Friends Website but is currently conspicuous by its absence! I will PM you once details have been posted.

I wont be at this event due to living else where these days

However please note that due to both locos arriving and departing at various points on friday and saturday evening, there will be shunt moves taking place.

The volunteers will do everything to make sure you all get your perfect photographs but please bare in mind there is work to be done too. So there will be people working upon both engines and probably a little BR blue shunter moving around too.

Please bare with the staff and crews and listen to instructions carefully.

Can we also request that visitors are NOT to wear high visibility clothing as the staff need someway to distinguish themselves and who hand signals are being given by.

Many thanks for all your co-operation. Promises to be a fantastic event/weekend and im gutted i cant be there for this one

Edit: All information in the fulness of time will be on the website http://www.creweheritagecentre.co.uk/, or the friends website http://friendsofcreweheritagecentre.blogspot.com/

Alternatively the centres contact information is listed on the main site

In addition to the locos mentioned in the original post by 73087 we also now have 70013 Oliver Cromwell on site (minus tender) for attention in the workshops of LNWR Heritage thus giving the prospect of two Britannia Class locomotives in Crewe works for the first time since the 1960s! We are also hoping to have 6100 Royal Scot on display subject to completion of work following re-wheeling last week. There will be a preserved classic bus operating between Crewe station and the Heritage Centre on the Saturday only and please be aware that there is limited car parking at the Centre itself but plenty of nearby car parks in the town. Parking in the adjacent Tesco car park is limited to a maximum of 3 hours.

I would also like to reiterate the comments made by Matt Kitchen (76079) regarding on site loco movements during the weekend. High visibility clothing is only to be worn by Heritage Centre operating personnel and locomotive support crews and can I also insist that all photographers stay in the designated areas and adhere to any instructions given to them by operating staff.

    Event Update:

The Locomotive in steam for Friday evening will be 6201 Princess Elizabeth as 6233 Duchess of Sutherland will not now return until midnight.

On Saturday after the departure of 6201 on railtour duty, 6233 will be in steam for the day. 6201 is due to return late Saturday evening. (Time to be advised).

Both 6201 and 6233 will be in steam on Sunday.

In addition 6100 Royal Scot has now been re-wheeled and will hopefully be on view along with 9F 92134. Other loco's under repair on site are 80136, 60009, 70013 and 70000. Please note that we cannot guarantee that all of the locomotives will be viewable / accessible.

On the Diesel front a new arrival at the centre is Class 37 37683, additionally the cab from Class 40 40088 will be open during the weekend.

On Saturday a vintage bus service will run from the railway station to the Heritage Centre from 09:30 to 15:30. The bus will continue to ferry people back to the railway station until 17:00.
