Really very impressive with load 12+47804 Dead on the back,in top notch condition,bar the "sneezing" caused by carbon build up in the exhaust system. (Does not have an effect on performance...)

 

Strewth. I thought this was a thread about steam locos. I clicked on that link last night! (severe shock).

NOT the sort of stuff I want to get onto my computer. I thought you could get locked up for viewing stuff like that?

Run my Norton anti-box clean up programme several times since. And complained to Symantec that a box got though in the first place.

Anyway. For Ralph and others who are on the doubleheaded Black 5 run on Saturday. Enjoy! It looks like a good trip. I'd have given it very serious consideration if I hadn't started off by booking on what could well now be a mainly box powered tour this week, (although that will be decided by the weather).

 

Don't worry,the medicine for the shock you suffered is on its way (The steam videos....)

 

The following times were posted on the WNXX forum last week. They match the timings on the RTC website (except for a 5 minute discrepancy at WBQ in the morning), but include a few intermediate times.

Im hoping to be out to see this one on saturday and was looking for a nice spot on the climb up the sugar loaf and was thinking of sugar loaf station itself or maybe the bridge just after the tunnel just before the station, can anyone suggest any other good locations on the climb up?

I realise that the times on UKsteam.info are "Outline times" but surely there is something amiss.
It appears that it will take 5 hours to travel from the water stop at Pantyffnnon to Llandrindod Wells, a distance of around 50 miles. Does that mean your going to spend 4 hours in a loop somewhere? and there aren't that many along that stretch.

 

On the last two trips, Pantyffynon-Llandrindod took 1hr 51m and 2hr 20m. This time it looks like 2hr 54m (not 5hours !).

Just seen them through llanharan at 12.25 approx 20 mins early.

 

Are the pair still going to arrive at Shrewsbury on-time, or have they gained/lost time?

Saw the engines going through just north of Dolau and it was about 45 minutes late due to a late running service train.
Looked excellent and sounded particularly good.

 

Is there any news on location?

Noting they had been early at one stage I went to Prees to try to catch them in the last rays of light but on arrival a freindly signalman told me they were 40 minutes late so thought I'd let Ralph know in case he was waiting somewhere and he could also let the forum know (I'm definately not technically minded enough) only to find he was on the train.

Dashed to Acton Bridge where there is more "station" light to be told I'd missed Scots Guardsman. Hey ho.

Chris, many thanks for posting.

Can I make a comment on the video please? A suggestion, not a criticism. Would it have been better to just let the train run through the shot? You may have got a better feeling of it being a doubleheader. Then pan with the last coach to get the going away view.

Easy to say that from the comfort of my own home I know, rather than being out there late at night taking a shot we can all enjoy later on.

 

Come on Ralph. No lie in this morning. The whole of Nat Pres is up early and waiting to read your comprehensive report on yesterday. LOL!

Or were you even later to bed last night, creeping round the garden in the dark of the early hours using your .osepipe! (wink)
