Just back from Yorkshire, and while up North, I paid a visit to the NRM (nice to see the L&B coach in main hall)
As the main car park was closed, we were directed to one over the road from the main entrance, when I had parked up I noticed rails embedded in the concrete. A rough measure ( My Size 11's) made this to be aprox 2ft.
Can anyone tell me a bit about it?

That'd be the 2' gauge track in the old Concrete works, last used c.2004 as a place to park the Darj and her coaches and Lyd during Railfest. Prior to that I'm afraid I have no idea!

    Ta John,
I will take a guess that it was used for a stock yard and some kind of 2 ft wagon(s) used to move lumps of concrete around.
It was just nice to find some real railway lines in York!!!!!!!!!

    (runs for cover)

There is of course a bit of useable, FR bullhead no less, 2' gauge track in the South Yard as well, but it doesn't get a whole lot of use. Lets just hope it doesn't end up like its immediate next door neighbour, the 7' 1/4" gauge line, tarmaced betwixt rails as a footpath (until Iron Duke is brought home as an operational loco, I'd guess)

In the concrete yard there used to be about 7 or 8 tracks running out of the shed running to wagon turntables then running parallel to the dock wall for transferring product to standard gauge wagons.
