    18/19th September. www.mrt.org.uk

Details have just been posted in the events section of this forum of the opening gala in September - as Simon asks, some feedback on what people would like/expect to see would be useful to the planners.
Unfortunately, this year the passenger trains are likely to get in the way of the demonstration freight trains a little!

    Answers on a postcard....

Would it be possible to have the chassis of your Joffre on view to show progress?

Not alot has been heard recently, also might help provide funds towards its completion if you had a collections tin on it?

    Ouch!
    18th, Statfold open day.
19th, some bloke called Pope is coming to Birmingham and I have to be on duty because of it.

Oh well, will have to visit another time.

Unfortunately it is unlikely that the Joffre will be available for inspection - it is owned by a group of MRT members and currently under active restoration off-site. All I can suggest currently is to watch the MRT website for updates!

FYI - Apedale is just over 1 hr away from both Statfold & Birmingham!

    Cheers,
    Gareth

Just to add to Gareth's post, we are hoping to arrange a concessionary entry rate into the Apedale event for those who have been to Statfold as well. You could make a real weekend of it!

Just announced in a press-release in the Galas/events section of this forum; Kerr Stuart locomotive "Stanhope", Hunslet "Edward Sholto" and vertical boiler locomotive "Paddy" will all be in action at Apedale over the gala weekend (in addition to the vast array of historic i/c & battery machines). "Stanhope" will then subsequently become a permanent resident of Apedale, in action at the regular future steam days.

    Cheers,
    Gareth

Just to let you know that MRT Apedale Grand Opening Gala is currently proceeding to plan.

Kerr Stuart Tattoo "Stanhope" & the Quarry Hunslet "EDWARD SHOLTO" have been onsite for just over 1 week. The third loco in our trio of operating steam engines, Paddy, is due to arrive during the next 5 days...

Our Heritage Passenger Carriage Fleet has taken great strides forward & there should be plenty to entertain our visitors! More details - http://www.mrt.org.uk

Hope to see some of you in Staffordshire on 18/19th.

    Gareth

A busy weekend has seen Stanhope test run on the passenger train; we've more or less commisioned the coach-mounted compressor, which means that steam locos can haul the passenger train without the need to tow around a 60S Motor Rail. Sunday saw a test run of the first-ever four coach train, which is mighty impressive, only just fits the platform - but still doesn't represent too much of a challenger for the mighty 60S.

Looking good for next weekend. Now all we need are you, the weather and your wallets.

    Regards,

    Simon Lomax

The final steam loco of this weekend's trio has now landed safely at Apedale - the Vertical Boiler "Paddy".

I came, I brought my wallet. Was it me that brought the rain? Good event and a great start. In due course, it would be really helpful if there were a stocklist to add some history to the exhibits in the Aurora shed.

The website's SatNav suggestion ST5 7LB doesn't work on Garmin - leaves you at the dead end at 829483. Still its good to tour the industrial estates of Stoke.

    Good luck.
