Remember photters on some trips will be travellers on others, this 'us and them' mentality is pointless.

71000 going straight up the lickey incline unassisted?

 

I have edited the title to the thread due to it being the Duke and not Tornado on todays run. There are a few updates via the text system coming in.

Dad rang me on his mobile phone from the bank so I could hear it at my desk. Sounded rather good, looking forward to uploads on Youtube later!

 

Some interesting reports so far. I'm going up to Clapham J. / Waterloo later.

Looking forward to seeing the Duke back on the Mainline for the first time this year.

The Duke put in a great performance just after leaving Melton Mowbray fabulous effort from the crew with some wonderful exhaust.

It's always good to see steam up the Lickey but it was a little too much diesel and not enough DOG to be a classic. I was very impressed however at the site of Ampthill station. 1:200 up and the diesel just quiescent so equal to about 15 and DOG fairly rattled through.

 

That's the impression I got from the only video linked to from here so far. Didn't really pick up the noise from 71000 passing Bromsgrove that I would have expected.

Big Al was on the train and maybe he will give us a more detailed report later, including an assessment of what the box did.

Rudolph "Box" has a lot to answer for. At least, if one theory as to his ending is believed, he may have seen the error of his ways and jumped ship, so as to speak. Pity he couldn't have stayed in the country of his birth and got together with Andre Chapelon to finally develop a super power compound pacific!
