Can someone help me with a question. Are the crankpins on the Lord Nelson class in line with the spokes or between the spokes. I have seen photogrpahs which seem to show both styles. On recent pictures of 850 Lord Nelson the crank pin boss appears to cover three spokes with the centre one in line with the crank pin hole. Is that correct?

Is the shot of 30863 taken leaving Southampton?

Yes, it is. Have checked a shot I took of 30861 from the platform looking West under that lovely signal gantry.

And re-checking the link, it says, "Southampton" under the photo!

Here you go. Not very good quality: just done a scan off a small print that was done 48 years ago! September 1962. I think the train was something like the 16.20 ex Waterloo to Bomo.

Scroll down in this link to see close up of LN wheel. Does this help?

FYI, TRAC is a nice little railway club in deepest Dorset.

No I do not currently volunteer
The shot of Lord Rodney at location unknown is just south of Southampton Central - the iconic signal gantry is a give-away!

With grateful thanks to Neil who started this thread, I have got my act together and started to scan the 100 or so enprints that have lain undisturbed for 48 years, and create some web pages. The first being a few shots of Lord Nelsons in 1962.

    Lord Nelsons in 1962

I'm now working on a page for Schools Class photos. Taking a while, as after scanning it can be up to 4 hours work cleaning up each photo to a reasonable state for publishing to the web.
