No 24 does look good, the BR lined black seems to suit pre grouping tank locos very well whilst it it true that an lined out o2 hasnt been seen since 1967, i wonder seeing as 27 was the last one steamed at newport , to shunt the rest of the engines into the scrap yard , was she infact the very last one steamed, ,Had 31 chale beeen withdrawn by then? ,which means how long since A BR lined out o2 was steamed last, It has got to be about 43 years, 3 months by my reaconing.

A few more pictures of 'Calbourne' on a Light Engine test run have now appeared on the IWSR website:

    http://www.iwsteamrailway.co.uk/the-railway/locomotives/66.html

I don't yet know when 'Calbourne' will officially enter traffic, although she may be out on some trial runs soon - I hope it is possible for her to be in traffic for the August Bank Holiday steam show when we could have 'Calbourne' on the bogie set and 'Freshwater' on the 4-wheelers - that would be worth coming across to the Island for!

W24 is another step nearer a return to traffic. Yesterday evening (2 Aug 10) she completed a test run out to Smallbrook Junction, the attached picture shows her on the return leg at Ashey Station.

Love the shot Tony. Very good to see....brings back many memories - though she was green all the time I was growing up of course!

I was over the I.O.W. Sunday with the family and managed a flying visit( 10mins ) at Haven Street.

198 was on the service train but W24 was in the yard in full steam, Magnificent.

Well worth the £3 platform ticket even if it was for a short while.

Following on from the loaded test run yesterday evening, W24 'Calbourne' entered passenger traffic today. Rostered as 'Duty 1' engine she looked immaculate and performed faultlessly, a credit to all involved in her overhaul both at Havenstreet and LNWR Crewe.

Further running-in turns will follow, hopefully she will be available for the August Bank Holiday Steam Show which is looking good for a half-hourly interval two train service with 'Calbourne' and 'Freshwater', to be confirmed on the IWSR website.

Pictures of 'Calbourne' in service today are on the IWSR website now.

The IWSR has announced that there will be a 'Calbourne Weekend' (8th/9th/10th October) to celebrate her return. The weekend will also feature W8 'Freshwater'. It's still early stages in the planning yet, with more details still to be announced. The good news is that the Real Ale Bar has already been confirmed!

This is not to say that 'Calbourne' will not be running between now and the event weekend, and the loco roster for the August Bank Holiday Steam Show is still to be confirmed.

'Calbourne' and 'Freshwater' are both confirmed as being on the roster for the Bank Holiday Weekend Island Steam Show, baring the unforseen.

We will be running a 30-minute interval service throughout the four days of the show with 'Calbourne' on the bogie coaches and 'Freshwater' on the 4-wheelers.

Ashey Station is closed during the Show timetable (difficult to collect fares and request stops cause delay to a very tight timetable) which will cut down some of the photographic opportunities. The 'Calbourne Weekend' in October will be better for the photographers!

Details of the Island Steam Show are on the IWSR website.

Went over to the IOW on Tuesday and enjoyed runs behind both Freshwater and W24 Calbourne on this delightful line. It brought back good memories for my Father who said he used to holiday on the island when he was a child.
W24 looks superb in BR livery and is a credit to those who overhauled her. Had a non-stop run behind Freshwater on the "Tourist" from Smallbrook Jct. It's been a long time since I've had a run behind a Terrier but a named non-stop run was a little different! Thanks to all the very helpful and friendly staff and volunteers for providing a great day on the line. Haven't had a chance to sort out my pictures yet but hope to get some on at the weekend.
