I managed to get this shot of 6201 during a few fleeting minutes of sunshine just south of Hellifield.

The shot coming out of the tunnels at Edge Hill is SUPERB, from both a Steam perspective and a Camerawork perspective......Thanks for sharing with us mere mortals

The part I can see is absolutely brilliant Austin - I'm having great trouble with YouTube as somethings seem to stop at 1:40 - I know not why.

Just to emphasise how good your video is it can be prepared with mine (Oubeck, Scout Green, Langwathby and Dandry Mire Viaduct) at:

This was definately not my finest hour. I was delayed by an accident on the motorway to the first location and just after I arrived Lizzie came round the corner 20 minutes early so I only managed a hand held shot of much shorter length than that planned. Unfortunately there are also several unplanned appearances of my hand and the umbrella as I strove to keep the driving rain from the lens. And finally, the only clear shot (at Scout Green) includes the free bonus of a helicopter. I must have been very naughty in a previous life!

I love it all but the approach through the cutting at Birkett Common is just spectacular!

    Thanks for sharing it. :thumb:

as others have said, superb vid Austin - Lizzie leading from the front in the 'big engine' stakes in my view with some great performances this year, covering for others unavailable and seemingly running like the proverbial sewing machine - great credit to those looking after the engine and the support crew for all their hard work

I'll echo the comments of others Austin - that is one superb video of 6201 at Edge Hill and climbing Shap. Pity the weather was naff on the S&C, but you can't get lucky three times in one day!.

    Regards,

    Dan

Thanks everyone for your very kind comments re yesterdays video. I had been foiled so many times by Lizzie coming through the wrong platform so it was great to strike lucky yesterday especially as there were no other trains in the cutting. It really doesn't get much better than seeing a former Edge Hill engine, which I saw so many times as a boy, running from my hometown in 2010. A great credit to those who look after the old girl. By the way, does anyone know who the crew were yesterday, they were on sparkling form.

Excellent shots Austin, I'm still struck down with a Zimbabwean bug, so did not get out at all this weekend. The driver at Edge Hill looks like Mick Kelly.

Lovely, well filmed sequences of a loco I did enjoy travelling behind when she came South.

I did like the cutaways you used as well! I imagine you know they were called "foxcats" in the early days of filming. Fox Talbot used to film cats as cutaways to help edit shots together, hence the name. When filming "programmes" often the hardest part of the filming is to get sufficient cutaways to make editing easier. Without them editing can be an absolute nightmare. The times I waited in South Africa for a signal to go down after the train had passed. Even more so waiting for one to be pulled off!
