Ever fancy driving a "Terrier"?
1875 built ex-LBSCR 0-6-0T No 662 'Martello' [currently based at Bressingham] has been hired for the Gala and the Swanage Railway is pleased to announce that time has been set aside for footplate experience trips - Monday 13th and Friday 17th September. This is, of course, subject to the usual operational constraints and availability. Spaces appear to be selling fast.

Looking to make a weekend of this Gala and the Mid Hants Gala so I will keep an eye out!

 

A number of people have welcomed that two 'nearby' railways hold their Galas on the same weekend. It must help encourage travellers from further away to travel if they can see "Two for the Price of One-ish".

 

Timetable, whilst not yet 100% completed, is going to be based on last years TT.

Yes it works out well, I have a hotel booked for Saturday night in Winchester after Mid Hants then Bournemouth Sunday night after Swanage, should be a good weekend!

 

Timetable now done. Hope to have on website very soon.

1st train from Swanage 0900 and last one gets back 2349 (Fri + Sat) + 1815(Sun)
1st train from Norden 0945 on all 3 days.

2 train running in the evening. One of which is the bistro diner.

Loco diagrams not yet started as awaiting on confirmation of any other guests.

Woo Hoo! Bradley Manor eh? New cop for me! I'd be there anyway, but this makes it likely that I'll do Sat & Sun! Good old Swanage!

 

I was being put off by the poor connection at Wareham between bus and train, however, with 7802 now going I shall definitely be there now. Well done for getting the services of a top loco!

Quality addition to have the Manor every gala is a million times better with a Manor barking away

 

Looking forward to the gala having booked a cottage for the week.

Glad some Southern BR(S) engines will also be making an appearance....it is a long way to go to see Western engines!

 

The bus connection at Wareham is not very good roll on the day when you can get a train.

 

Too true! I notice the bus departure time, which is hourly, is about the same time or 1 minute before the down train arrives. Don't you just love an integrated transport system. Nonetheless I shall give it a go and be there for the Friday.

you could allways get a Taxi not sure how much they would be though

 

2 trains an hour to Wareham so why not get the one earlier so you only have a 30min wait

Any better connection at Bournemouth using the hourly No. 50 W&D bus to Swanage?
The bus stop is right outside the station [but can't remember which 'stand'] - you're looking only at a short stroll.
