The railway at Whipsnade Zoo is having a gala this weekend with Melior visiting.

    See http://www.zsl.org/zsl-whipsnade-zoo/news/full-steam-ahead-at-zsl-whipsnade-zoo,731,NS.html for details

Looks good but it's not clear from the website how much it costs. Do you have to pay to get into the zoo and then the trains are free or is there a separate charge for the trains - instead or on top of the zoo entry?

There is a separate charge for the railway. Couple that with the admission charge and the cost of taking your car in (recommended, as it's a huge site), and you're in for an expensive - but worthwhile - day out

£19.50 for adults to get in, another £16.00 if you want to take the car on site, and I think it's a couple of quid for a ride. Taking your car in means you can get some shots of the line out in the safari park area, but there are other places you can photograph the line by getting there on foot.

So it's the best part of £40 for couple of rides on a 1.5m (?) line?! I'd love to go but I'm afraid it's just too expensive on top of the petrol after driving from South Wales.

No it's not, it's the best part of £35 for a trip to the zoo.

Plus £4 (approx) for two rides on the train which is the only bit I'm interested in doing.
