As far as I can see, the person has made one posting about 1300, simply to say where it was going. I don't call that 'so much interest'. He certainly didn't ask any questions.

Other than as an admirer of the engine during it's time at Adlington,Carnforth and Bury,I have no particular interest in it.Someone posted a message asking where it was being taken and I answered that query
I was a bit surprised by the rest of your post, and wondered why you were demanding to know my identity, and what relevance this has to the topic. However your subsequent posts are somewhat lighter in tone,so you can put the thumbscrews away as I am not a member, and very unlikely to join now !!

I dont know how it is now at Bury, but being short of covered accomodation and a minimal set of display facilities, the I think ELR used to only offer covered accomodation for working locomotives.. not non-working ones.

If it's still true, then maybe it's a sign 1300 may not be a runner for some time.
That said, if Bury Transport Musuem is about to open, wouldnt 1300 been a nice display exhibit in here ? (it's only an 0-6-0 it'd fit the yard radius wouldnt it ?), so maybe it is going for overhaul ?

Does anyone know the condition of the firebox ?, does it need a new one or was it recoverable ?, I remember there was dramatic stories at the time.

Well I read it had 'qulited'... no idea what that meant, so I asked someone who was once a fireman at Dorchester South shed... he wasn'tsure either, but knowing the flusable plug had been droped, he surgested bascily it started to melt (at least that general gist I got but I can remember all the details he described to me now). So I would rekon it was wrecked. And new copper inner fire boxes aren't what you call cheep either are they?

I would have thought that the loco/railway insurance would cover the damage?

I'm no expert, but I don't think a "quilted" firebox is necessarily completely wrecked - I've a feeling that the black 5 at the Mid Hants has suffered this to some extent in its final BR days - but it will obviously needed straightening and replacement of the crown stays at the very least. Obviously, it depends how bad the damage was.

I'm speculating, and everybody on Nat Pres says you shouldn't do that, but if the crown is only quilted and nothing else, the copper plate should be recoverable. Depends what's happened around the stays. It will certainly be well annealed. Not a five minute job though. I believe that the crown stays require changing. I, too, would think that it is an insurance job. I suppose that it depends on their interpretation of whether the damage was accidental, or not.

Don't L & Y locos have girder stays, not crown stays?

    Information

    Just a quick point :

If people know what projects are happening, and the progress as it is made, then they *May* be more inclined to supply cash/effort/goods (delete as needed) to support said project(s)!

    No axe grinding! (honest!)

Quite possibly. Either way, there's a problem with them.

  14. the problem is this is a privately owned loco so i am not sure if people would help fund things in the same way

Is there any news on this loco, hasn't been activity for a while?

    Cheers,

Still in our museum at the Ribble Steam Railway as a static exhibit at present, although it did have a bief sojourn in the open air on August 4 (dragged 'dead' by a diesel) for the Lostock Hall locomen's reunion.

At present, a resolution is still to be agreed after the incident in which it was damaged. I'm sure the owner will advise of progress as soon as there's something to tell!

I had my first visit to the Ribble Steam Railway on Sunday. What a super little railway it is. Very friendly staff and a very well turned out loco on the service trains. I will be back!
As mentioned earlier in this thread, the loco works is very impressive, and the size of it did rather surprise me. There seemed to be lots going on in the workshops, various industrial tank loco's in different states of repair/overhaul. 1300 was on display in the museum area alongwith 46441. It would be nice to think that they will both one day be trundling up and down the running line, over the swing bridge at the marina! :)

So are there still investigations on this loco or were they sorted out a while ago? And if its on display then they can't have repaired it yet.

I was told that repairs have not yet been undertaken, as it is still to be decided who pays for them. Either way, i hope we see it in action again in the not too distant future.

Curious, have tried searching for RAIB reports into this, but can't find any. Was the report concluded and published, or is it still ongoing?

Is 1300 likely to be repaired?
