Great to see '59 back in action, seen here arriving at Kingscote this morning with her first passenger working of the year.

Very nice to see 34059 back and a great picture. Is it on a photo charter there?

I think that would be a gentle re-introduction to traffic as she hasn't run since December. It's an odd set of coaches for a BR livery Bulleid but I like it.

I watched her run through HK with the Lunch time Golden Arrow today, sounded superb accelerating away up towards Sharpthorn.

Thanks for the comments chaps. And no, it wasn't a charter! She was booked as the locomotive for the Sunday lunchtime pullman today, a diagram which usually involves an early light engine run to Horsted to work the 11.17am vintage train to Sheffield Park. However today, because of the Collectors fair, this set actually made an extra early morning trip to Kingscote, before returning to join the normal 11.17 path. Quite why the van was included in the formation I don't know, but it made a nice change!

    Cheers,
    Jon

Thanks Jon always loved your pictures. The van is why I thought it was on a charter.

Great group I just joined it and added some Archie pictures. If I can find the disk for my old phone I'll try to upload 2 images of Wadebridge on a brief visit I had to Ropley February last year (after seeing Tornado at Eastleigh and Winchfield). Wish I knew where the camera film I had for Giants of Steam 2007 at the Bluebell when Wadebridge,92 Squadron joined Eddystone and Blackmore(moor) Vale.

Regarding the 5250 gallon modified tender fitted to No. 34059 and about to be fitted to No. 34046. These tenders are not the same as those used when the locomotives were in traffic on the Southern Region. The final design for the 5250 gallon tender, which was never built, has two BR Southern type rear ladders and one central rectangular water filler. It is this design that now runs behind No. 34059 and will run behind No. 34046. The version which did run behind these two locomotives in S Region days - and also behind Nos. 34031 an 34039 - had two rear ladders and two rectangular water fillers and were conversions of three 4500 gallon and one 5500 gallon tender.

Thanks for clearing the tender issue up, its good to know that leading figures in preservation take the time to visit this forum. Now I promised a forum user to provide a photographic update of 35018 British India Line during my trip behind 5029 to Weymouth. I must tell you that these were taken with zoom lens from the pavement and the Tout Quarry footpath (after a bit of pruning-it's like a jungle out there!) OUTSIDE the property of South Coast Steam, and I wish to make it clear that I do not condone trespass in any form. That said, here are some updates:

And glimpsed through the undergrowth of Tout Quarry at the back of the site:

Personally, I think she looks worse than she actually is, and that there is nothing that a bit of grit-blasting, money and TLC won't do.

Bullied Pacific; looking at your pictures you say that the tender is 3350, but I think it is 3343, which ran with 35018 from 10/64 – I await to be corrected! This tender was the coal-weighing one and was re-bodied to a similar style to the 5,250 gallon ones mentioned by John above, but was extended to carry 6,000 gallons because of the longer chassis. It has two fillers and ladders at the back.

As this tender is unique it would be good to see at least this restored.

I'm not saying its an infallible font of knowledge, but my information came from SEMG, which states that self-weighing tender No. 3343 is currently attached to 34105, and that that attached to 35018 is No. 3350. As I said, this may be wrong, with both fitted the other way round. By the way, good job on the 34053 print!

Didn't 34105 have a new tender tank made when it was first restored?

Thanks for the comment about the Sir Keith Park print.

as you say 3345 was purchased to run with Swanage and 3343 for British India Line, but I think they were swapped when at Ropley. The picture attached, taken by Geoff Kirby, of 35018 at South Coast Steam clearly shows a re-bodied Merchant Navy tender.

I remember being told the same info about the tender swap some years ago. Does anyone know if Richard Heather (Dickie Mint) is still the owner of 35018.

I must admit that I am not sure about the ownership status of this locomotive. At one point, 35018 was one of two rather secretive MNs, the other being 35011. However, things seem to have started to move a bit regarding the latter, although I have not heard of anything since its move to Sellindge.
