If you're coming in from the Bournemouth direction the x50 from Bournemouth station is a better bet, as it goes direct to Swanage station via the toll ferry. An adult return is about £7.

I've travelled on that a few times when staying in Bournemouth. Trouble with it is it takes so long to get to Swanage that the wait at Wareham for a 10 minute journey doesn't give the Bournemouth option an advantage.

It's not that fast, but certainly more scenic. ;)

It can be bloomin' windy upstairs on that open top bus. It's all good fun though.

It can indeed. As a bonus, you get to be on an open topped bus on a ferry, which is rather an unusual experience.

As an aside you can easily tell the regulars on that route, too - they're the ones who instinctively duck just before the bus hits a patch of overhanging vegetation. ;)

Is this a Joke? Its just outside clyindered GWR locos are (or at least I thought) were banned from Swanage as they would make contact with Corfe Castle and Swanage's platforms.

Am reliably informed that the loco diagrams will be sent to the railways website guru/moderator this evening.
So with any luck they will be available for you to down load at your leisure.....oh and free of charge

Public timetables at http://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/n-timetable.htm - go to bottom of page for all the three days. All workings subject to the usual availabilities and potential changes, etc.

Highlights for GWR enthusiasts might well be the 11:50 from Swanage on both Friday and Sunday mornings - 6695 and 7802 double-heading!
Weather forecast for Saturday could be better - but we're hoping it might not turn out that bad as the Isle of Purbeck seems to have it's own micro-climate.
Bradley Manor was towed to Swanage chimney-first (tender arrives Thursday AM-ish) but I've not been able to confirm which way round it will run during the Gala. It's a little 'tight' through Herston Halt apparently and, as a result, may well have a speed restriction placed upon it - but climbing up the subsequent 1 in 78 might prove interesting (deafening). Plans are for a test run sometime on Thursday PM to check all platform clearances.
Martello arrived safely and looks really tiny next to a Bulleid!!

Any idea what happens tro 662 and 53 on Saturday morning? They are shown arriving at Swanage at 10.53, their next working is then the 12,10 from Norden. Do they go up to Norden on the back of the 11.10 ex-Swanege?

Thanks for the info. Certainly looks good and thanks to who did the diagrams for not double heading the Pacifics and generally keeping the Std 4 on its' own. Also will be nice to see the freight out.

Couple of questions which someone may be able to help with. Which way round is the std 4 facing at the moment? Having looked at some recent photos I think everything else except the terrier are facing North at the moment? This is bit of a shame for photos but I am sure things will change during the weekend. Thanks in advance.

Looking forward to a week in the sunny south!

53; 662; 6695 and 80104 were all smokebox facing Swanage (Eastwards), I believe, when I went past on Thursday PM. I don't know if the Gala planners have programmed some turntable displays during the Gala. We have done it occasionally in the distant past, I think, so they might want to repeat it this year.
7802; 34028 and 34070 were all facing Corfe Castle (Westwards).
6695 facing same way as 7802, for Friday's and Sunday's 11:50 double headers, would look so much better photographically I guess. I wonder if there will be enough muscle present, and time, to turn '95 for these two trips to Norden?
