Saw a link to this on the KWVR website. A very sad loss to the local landscape. Don't know the cause as yet, but it housed Airedale Springs, who I think supply the heritage rail industry? Depressing scenes - all that beautiful masonry being reduced to rubble overnight - also what sounds like cheers ringing out - you'd think it was bonfire night. Fortunately no mention of injuries, but there's around 50 jobs at risk. Apparently the sprinkler system wasn't working.

Aye Sheff - sad sight. I lived in Haworth for 10 years. That space will look very strange without the mill. :(

Was like my second home years ago (Haworth, not the mill!). The building's been the back-drop to many a phot around Ebor Lane I'm sure.

    Was wondering that myself...
Does anybody know if the building was in use, other than the Spring Co. (or did they use the surounding buildings?)

"They" seemed very fast off the mark to start demolition - which will take several weeks! nor did it look that unstable.
    hmmmm!!!!!
Maybe I'm just a suspicious person by nature,
but something similar happened to some listed "bonded warehouses" on Newcastle quayside that were "under conversion" to apartments.
What was rebuilt after the fire - well, I'll leave that to your imagination, but lets just say, it bore only a passing resemblence to the pre-fire building!

The mill near Cambridge station had planning permission to be turned into apartments. It caught fire a few weeks ago. Main building has survived but grain store was demolished. Cause of fire still under investigation...

You seem to be implying arson. I would imagine that there had been an investigation and they had got the 'all clear'.

Looking at it from the civils perspective it didn't look stable. Add in how much a buiding would distort in such a fire as the whole thing expands and removal of floors by the fire making it less rigid and its no surprise its unstable. Buildings can be demolished immediately if they pose an immediate threat to the general public.

    Duncan

  12. please do not speculate as to the whys and wherfores as dor the skipton propertys link i suggest you read the keighley news its all in there last week! you may be supprised
the mill was unstable as the top three floors had gone ebor lane is closed at present. it is such a shame yes but i wonder what else people will speculate on now! as for the cheers i think the vidieo was taken outside the pub
