There was a brief shot of her outbound on Timothy Spall's recent TV programme about his adventures in his barge.

Orange Star boarding pilot at Breaksea 1530 tomorrow. Expect her passing Portishead Point 1700. Rumour has it her final sailing, we shall see when she gives her destination outbound I guess.

Here she is outbound from Rotterdam - http://www.tugspotters.com/dev/index.php?itemid=29855#more

    What a handsome looking vessel.

    Hope she continues trading.

I will know her sailing time tomorrow. Tides look good for a daylight departure this week. I'd expect it to be Tuesday PM or Wednesday AM at a guess.

ps - the Geest boats were better (Bay and Port). Sadly both razor blades now - the Bay's bell is in good care though after it was rescued from the beach!!

I would guess departure will be more likely to be Thursday or Friday now. They are only working cargo during daylight hours. Discharging around 5000 ton of orange juice. Will update . .

Looked good arriving on Sunday and enjoyed by the small gallery even if the sun didn't play ball.

Geest boats better? No way with those funny exhaust pipes for a funnel!

I was in Rotterdam last Friday (20th) and saw her stern poking out of the 'juice terminal.'

Once a Blue Star ship, always a Blue Star ship! On the topic of "Geest Boats", I always thought they looked very majestic through their various designs from the old Geestland etc right up to the Geestport and Geestbay. The newer (secondhand) Geesthaven and Geestcrest not quite so but stiil classics in their own right.

Who remembers the Jamaica Producer, evident when the JP service moved to Newport from Sheerness? Replaced a little while later by the Montego Bay of course.

On a different note, when the St Helena service left Avonmouth for a new home at Cardiff the old ship was replaced by the brand new vessel, but for a memorable trip a leased RFA stepped into the breach (and consequently conked out on its way south!). The look on the faces of embarking passengers was a picture when they saw the ship!

My memory is getting a little rusty but I seem to recollect Jamaica Planter/Producer had a berth in the NW corner of the Royal Albert Dock circa 1959 - 1962,I think they were Norwegian flag ships,I was NZSCo/Federal and we had the next 2/3 berths to the East.

Thanks for providing the sad but expected news. A couple of pics are attached to remind us of what we have lost.

In reality we should be grateful that we were able to see such a classic British ship in home waters so reguarly but Portishead won't be same without her. Another bit of my childhood disappears.

Now if she was German they would probably preserve her....
