What happened to pannier tank 5764 - is that off the menu? Or was it never on it? Getting a pannier of some description would be good (not 9466 please - it's great but it's been too many times)

  2. Good question! It was listed as "confirmed" on 3 August.

The line-up for this year isn't sounding as good as last year's The Prelude gala, which is a bit of a shame, I was hoping for something even more impressive! But I guess as others have said, they can't keep on out-doing themselves...

To be honest, the late summer event on 4th/5th September has a more interesting line-up now than the ASG. I suspect that I might go to that instead, and then head "up north" to the NYMR ASG instead of the WSR ASG. Trouble is, it's a bl**dy long way from Gloucestershire to the NYMR.

I'm guessing with 4566 now listed she is going instead of 5764. Shame as its been a while since a Pannier was at WSR.

Lets hope more trains stop at Washford so the efforts of the SDRT lads doing the shunting displays are not in vain. The 8 trains a day not stopping not only effects the SDRT takings but also the pub next door who used to do a good trade on galas.

Yes but I don't agree with making every train stop at every station, maybe 3 each way not calling at Dunster, Washford, Doniford and Stogumber at different times during the day and not at peak times (aka 10 & 11 from BL + 3 & 4 from MD), not the 10, 12, 2 and 4 each way not calling at Washford and Doniford plus up trains at Stogumber. I was rather hoping to get a shot of a train storming through Stogumber but this is not going happen now :(

I'm afraid that after 20 yrs on the railway , I ,ve become a little jaded with the WSR. Some people seem to have their heads stuck in the sand! I too had a brekky at one gala on my 'day off' & as has been said it was full & queing! Definately a demand!
The gala team should be going all out to provide brekky,s , lunches , dinners & whatever else people want all day (prob the QB team would,nt agree!) THAT is the way to make friends & build a good reputation , as well as making money!!

Is there likely to be a timetable/loco roster available to view or buy before the event, or is there one usually available on the day?

To answer my own question, the program is available for £3, and listed with the advance tickets on the railway's website

WSW's website is now reporting 4953 Pitchford Hall as a visitor. I thought that Kinlet Hall was undergoing an overhaul at the moment?

The WSR plc's site hasn't been updated to reflect this, but it no longer lists 3850 as a participant.

  15. Thanks for the reminder about 3850 which, from what I gather, will not be available. Unofficial website page amended.

List received yesterday from the WSR Plc:

    Visiting Loco's confirmed are:
    44767 George Stephenson
    6024 King Edward 1
    5029 Nunney Castle
    4953 Pitchford Hall
    4566
    Home fleet:
    9351
    5553
    4160

    Remember us??

    John

  17. Seems the Plc left 5542 off the list (a genuine mistake, I'm sure).

  19. Autumn Steam Gala 2010 Norton Shuttle times now on http://www.wsr.org.uk/asg2010.htm and very soon on the Plc website too.

No 44767 arrived on Tuesday and I understand will work trains this coming weekend (subject to the usual caveats)
