This maybe of interest to someone. 35005 Canadian Pacific is off to the Great Dorset Steam Fair this year.

Is this the second time she's been there? 34023 went last year; wasn't 34072 in attendance at one point?

I didn't see 34023 there last year but 21C123 was there on the back of an Alleys lorry in the Play Pen :)

I wondered what we would be seeing this year, thanks for the info.

    34072 went in 2004.

Slightly o/t as its not a Bulleid, but 30053 went in 2001 (I think - memory is playing tricks!). 68088 was there in 2002, along with the boiler of 6695 as a heavy haulage load.

Yeah I think I remember 35005 being at GDF before.

So that's how I get to 'cop' 34058 and 34073 without travelling all over the place. Just go to the GDSF! Mind you, Bitton isn't too far out of my way, although whenever I intend to go there to have a look at what's visible of the kit of parts, something else crops up. I read in the contents of this month's Steam Railway that there was no buyer for 34073, but they forgot to put the column in either the 'Stop Press' or the 'Southern' section. Typical...

Just back from 4 days at the GDSF, CP looked not bad on Wednesday but by the time I left it was a struggle to see her under the dust! Man from the Mid Hants had given up trying to clean her. Sadly he also said that she has a place in the restoration line but is unfortunately at the bottom of it.

The dust had to be seen to be believed! My black boots ended up a very pale grey by the end of the day. Great to see Can Pac there though and look forward to seeing it working in the future.

Anyone who likes the sound of a Bulleid whistle and lives in the North of England will be in for a treat in late October when 34007 will be visiting the NYMR according to Railway Magazine and I also hear from a member of the Great Central Railway that she will also be visiting the CG on her return journey to the MHR.

Correct, visit to NYMR is off - although 34070 is still going, so you'll still get the Bulleid experience!

Just to show how much dust there was at Dorset

Sorry about the quality but it is all I could upload

Good video but IMHO, it does sadly reduce Canadian Pacific to something of a fairground attraction (with respect to all owners of fairground engines.)

Maybe, but it keeps her in the public eye, means she gets cleaned and oiled for the visit and brings a bit of publicity to both loco and the MHR. Arguably better than sitting unregarded in a siding at Ropley or Alresford.

The "playpen" as it is known at the GDSF is an area when owners can use their engines for what they were made for. It doesn't really matter what the load is the mere fact that traction engines can pull 140t load up a 1 in 12 bank is quite a spectacle. There were other loads to, a tank from Bovingdon and a large 250t trailer with a substantial water tank as a load. Alleys were there demonstrating modern heavy haulage, they also had demonstrations of loading and unloading CP, all very interesting for those of us who don't see it very often.

I agree that it is a shame that this is the only way we get to see CP but unfortunately it is going to be the only way to see her in the foreseeable future.

I'm informed by the SVR Traffic Manager that 34070 is currently stabled at Bridgnorth. I was tempted to go there on my way back from York yesterday, but I arrived too late to justify the expense of a ticket (it being Timetable E), and there was only GWR stuff on the line as far as I could see. Mind you, I saw 'City of Truro' heading north on the M5 about an hour later near Strensham Service Station, and there was the inevitable crowd of vehicles around it...
