The website is updated with new news on the driving wheels with them expected to be cast by as soon as the end of october.
Things really do seem to be taking shape on this loco. Nice to see a new build getting in to shape.
Does anyone know how much it will cost for tyres etc, to get them into wheel sets?

I think Steam Railway quoted a price of about £86,000 for tyres, axles etc. I'll double check that price later.

The 82045 people--for comparison--have suggested around £125,000 for their driving wheels to be cast, machined, tyred, and pressed onto axles.

Found a lisrt of estimates http://www.lms-patriot.org.uk/project.html. Cant belive how expensive it is for the tyres and axles, is it the axles that cost the most of the £90,000 or an even split? it took nearly a year to raise this first £60,000 and thats with people giving a lot. i wonder how long it will take to get the next 90k. i can only afford £5 per month at the moment so its gonna take a fair while at this rate haha

Isn't it tyres and axles that can't be made in the UK any more ? Given the prices quoted you would think that some medium sized engineering company might be interested in having a go !

You know what I meant, no need to be a smart ass. Next time I'll just not bother trying to help answer someone's query.

Tryes tend to be only available from South Africa, but you would have thought we could forge axles here in the UK.

That figure is a real guesstimate. We are constantly being asked "how much is it going to cost" and in truth we rarely know the answer. There is little point in asking for quotes from companies until we are almost ready to proceed. Our guess for wheel casting was based on the apparent nice round figure of £10k per wheel. 82045`s axles will cost less than 45551 as there is no crank axle involved so it is misleading to compare the two.

Also sorta easier if your starting with a complete set of drawings.

And hopefully away from magazine publishing!

By the way, anyone got a good, used sense of humour for sale on this thread?

Unfortunately, there is not a complete set of drawings for 82045. Quite a few are missing, especially many of the ex LMS drawings for various components.

Don't understand this. While it is true that a good many drawing of the 'Patriots' are not at the NRM enough are in private hands and at the NRM to make a perfectly acceptable locomotive. Also the driving wheels of the 'Patriots' are LMS standard. It is true that the standard was in the process of changing during the production run of the engines and there are three variations at least that are known, but if the 'Patriot' group place their loco on standard Stanier wheels like the 'Jubilees' then they will be accurate.

    Regards

As someone who is pretty close to the loco I have to agree that it seems you are correct and a fair few are missing. Although to date, through the good offices of BRSLOG and by reverse engineering identical parts on SVR locomotives, we've been able to "fill all the gaps".

Although I'm not going to say we are completely home and dry I believe most of those areas of the Cl 3 where information is vague are going to be fairly similar to late LMS types and other BR Stds. Fortunately these engine types remain extant so I'm praying those gaps can also be filled.

Back on topic. I hope the Patriot people are able to similarly gather all the information they need to satisfy all the powers that be nowadays. Insurance, VAB etc. etc. etc.

    Only time will tell.
