Hi Guys. I have a Nikon 24 - 70 F2.8 sat at home still in it's box, never been used, never even been taken out of the box. I bought it in January and then aquired a 16 - 85 mm lens which seems to do everything I need it to and so the 24 - 70 is sat doing nothing! Anyone interested in purchasing it? Looking for sensible offers. Would sell on Ebay but hate the fact that they take 10% of the sale price so i'm not prepared to go down that road. Any serious interests or sensible offers welcome.

Wow cant believe you want to use the 16-85 over the 24-70. I use its older brother (28-70) and love it. These Pro Nikon lens really dont loose money such is the demand on the used market, i know you say its fresh, but it would be classed as Mint used item if it were to be listed..... If you want to really shift then id suggest speaking with the following retailers........

https://secure.ffordes.com/index.htm ffordes photographic specialise in used kit and seem short of nikon pro lens's - so will probably snap your hand off!

    Also try :-

http://www.mifsuds.com/acatalog/Second_Hand_Equipment.html Ive used these guys alot over the last 2 years there very good too....

I hope you keep it and trade in the other one, its a shame to see someone trade in a superb piece of glass without even comparing the difference between a consumer lens and the Pro, they cost 2 or 3 times for a reason. What body are you using?

    Hope this helps you out.

Thanks Jon. I appreciate that the F2.8 is a far superior lens but I have just found that the 16 - 85 does me for what I need and I am not desperate...but in need of some cash and so having the 24 - 70 just seems to have a lot of cash tied up at the moment. I wouldn't consider selling it for all the reasons you have mentioned above, if I didn't feel it was necessary. I tried Mifsuds they seemed to be a complete waste of time offering a ridiculous amount for it given it's age and condition. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone else. It's a real shame because I used to use them quite regularly but got the distinct impression that the guy down there was taking the ****.

I will try Ffordes... thanks for the suggestion.

I have tried the Pro lens (not the one I am selling) but one a mate owned and I do appreciate the difference and understand that this is reflected in the price. But I just can't justify keeping it at this time.

    Thanks for your help though.

I understand where your coming from, there is alot of cash tied up with a lens of such quality....These guys who deal in the used market are always going to give you bottom book, its how they work. If i was in the market for the upgrade id make you an offer!

Have you tried Grays of Westminster? Its the Posh shop for Nikon, you may get a better deal with these guys??? Just a thought.

Good luck i hope you get what you want for it.
    Cheers

Don't waste your time with dealers sell it via a forum if you want a decent price.

Try THIS one they have a lot of members.

To gain access to the classifieds you need to be a member which only involves the same as joining this forum, ie an e-mail address.

I will second the rip-off Nikon used lens dealers should be treated with caution. One mentioned above (Grays) offered me £400 for a mint DX 17-55 2.8 lens costing around £1100 - they sell them for £800. It woke me up and am glad I retained it, it is the match or better of the legendary 35-70 2.8 D zoom, one I actually bought of them in mint condition as it happens!
