An awesome gala at Llangollen over the weekend. Friday saw me on 3802, Saturday was meant to be a rest day but was invited onto the Auto Train by lil Bear. And to top the weekend off, Sunday saw me on 3717 'City of Truro' where we had 2 noisy and memorable trips. First being the 09.00 non stop to Carrog, and the 12.00 double header with 4953 'Pitchford Hall', with myself firing 'City of Truro'.

Amazing event, let's hope that Llangollen Railway can build on this for the 2 Steam Gala's next year?

Thanks to all the folk at Llangollen that made Mike and I so welcome on Saturday. Hope you all enjoyed the Hall as much as we did (especially the noise it makes).

Thanks also to whoever it was that arranged the weather. Sitting in the veranda of the Toad from Carrog to Llangollen in the sunshine is an experience everyone must have.

On behalf of the D9521 Locomotive Group, thanks to all at Llangollen for making us feel so welcome. We felt extremely honoured to be invited to attend this prestigious event and hope we "fitted in" with such auspicious company. It really was a big thrill for us to have the opportunity to drive along a real Premiership line and be given our own freight train to play with!

We enjoyed ourselves immensely, on the loco, around the shed, chatting to the passengers, travelling on the trains and of course in the bar afterwards..... I've already seen some of the stunning photos of the event and look forward to seeing some more. A really big Paxman thanks to everyone involved.

PS: We did give the freight train back.

Glad you enjoyed ourselves, that run up the bank yesterday through Berwyn with the 56 leading was pretty damn good :)

I know - I was there as well.

He went into the felled forest on the hillside and appeared from there to have a chat with myself and a video chap. I then gave him some directions on what could be seen on the other side of the forest towards Deeside Loop, but anyone would be hard pressed to get any shot there, let alone a master one. From trackside it's a different matter, and from various other locations nearer to Llangollen as well.

The departure from Llan was loud, woke me up and I was the other end of town!

Rick, that picture of City of Truro coming round the curve into Berwyn has got me on the footplate (the one wearing the beret), is there any chance I could have a copy for my records please??

An enjoyable Sunday. Being unfamiliar with the line I stuck with the stations and some feeble offerings are attached. Thanks to all.

Considering the number and length of trains the loadings seemed OK. People seemed to be hanging around rather than single tripping. The atmosphere at Glyndyfrdwy and Carrog was very relaxing.

It is a great line that hits the variety from "bug sky" at Carrog, townscape at Lllangollen and a nice valley between.

Without wanting to be controversial, one pleasant aspect was the absence of screaming children. As I said, relaxing.
