    I don't think that is necessarily true. The map shows that there is rather more of the North of the British Isles than there is of the south! There is undoubtedly a little bit of bias because the LNER were far sighted enough to establish a museum - unlike the GWR (and I think the LMS) who cut up potential exhibits.

    I've seen them all hauling passenger trains in the last few years:wink::wink: All except the J17, that is!

    If it weren't for the NRM the selection of LNER locos and its constituents would be even worse, no GCR locos in preservation for a start. Us oop norf weren't lucky enough to have a Barry.

    True, but as that obvious bias led to a bunch of schoolboys starting a fund in 1961 to preserve a 14xx, that eventually became the GWS etc etc might that have been in the end a good thing?
