Just a quick reminder that it is our September Enthusiasts Day in 3 weeks.

If anyone wants to come there’s still time to apply for an Invitation.

A form can be downloaded from our website :- www.statfoldbarnrailway.co.uk

We are aiming to have 10 Locos in steam including one “Mystery” visitor! Also trips in our Rail/Landrover and diesel trips around the lake/garden.

In addition we have a great many road vehicles coming including 11 road locos in steam, 15 classic cars , vintage motorcycles, stationary engines and vintage tractors.

    (All subject to availability obviously!)

Because we clash with the Apedale Grand Opening Weekend our friends at the Moseley Railway Trust have kindly offered anyone who comes to Statfold, on the 18th, a 50% discount off the admission price at Apedale. Flyers are being sent out with our Invitations to present on the gate at Apedale to benefit from the discount.

We look forward to welcoming you on the 18th.

This looks rather nice! I saw Trangkil no. 4 emerge from Hunslets in Leeds in October 1971, and should love to see her working again. As chance has it, I have to pass this way as my son is starting at Leeds university the following Monday, so, together with Apedale Rly opening and a Middleton Rly special weekend on following day, I shall make a mini holiday of what was otherwise a chore!

    Hi Zoot

In the garden we will have Hunslet Taylor "Western Reefs" HE 6720 of 1965

On the main trains we will have "Badger" (HC D1418 of 1971) and "Tom" , our latest diesel. Tom is interesting in that it was given both Hunslet and Hudswell Clark numbers (HE 8847 and HC DM1447 of 1981)

We will be double heading Tom and Badger so anyone who has heard Badger working hard will know that 2 six cylinder Gardner engines working together will make an amazing sound!

Double headed HCs? Excellent, I can hardly wait (and makes mental note to charge up camera batteries this time having missed out on filming Badger's recovery efforts last time round)

Yes, it was another great day and good to meet up again with 48DL and Fat Bob.

Tell me Henry (if you can), just what was in the Hunslet Engine Company artic down by the Grain Store? The trailer's rear wheels looked rather compressed....

Yes! I can do nothing than agree.
My guest this year was an old school friend, who introduced me to narrow gauge railways, some 47 years ago, after his first holiday in mid/north Wales. To say that he was astonished and amazed by what confronted him is the understatement of the year. I think he may be asking for another visit!

Good to meet 48DL. Very soothing watching him go round in never decreasing circles!

My profound thanks once again, principally to Graham and Henry but also to the volunteers who help to create my favourite day out, by far!

It's probably heretical to say this here but I've just put up four short videos on YouTube of my favourite locomotive at Saturday's fun day. The converted Land Rover...

Can anyone throw any further light on the history of the 'Polish visitor'? Henry promised us a surprise for the day and it certainly was for me as I had no previous knowledge of the loco at all. I know that it is privately owned by a Hollycombe volunteer and believe it was rebuilt/restored offsite, having been imported from Belgium. Whence did it originate?
The works plate has the legend 'FABRIKA KOTŁÓW w TORUŃIU No 1966 - 1957'. I presume that 1957 is year of manufacture but have always thought the perceived wisdom was that all Polish locos of that period were built by Fablok Chrzanów, following the nationalisation of industry in Poland from 1945 till recent times. Kotłów had/has a boiler plant. Is this the place of manufacture or was the boiler fabricated there and the loco construction was carried out at Chrzanów?
Can/will someone kindly enlighten/re-educate a befuddled old man?

I wasn't actually thinking of a conspiracy fatbob, just remembering that the day of the June open day I passed by the LH Group works on the train and spied the new DH60 loco outside behind the trees, something which was deemed to be "confidential news" at the time :)
