Unknown tender on A456: what, why?

on the way back from a visit to the Severn Valley Railway on Thursday 16 September, I photographed this tender on a low-loader on the A456 between Hagley and Blakedown heading for Kidderminster.





Could anyone please enlighten me about the identity of this tender and where it was going and why? I honestly have no clue other than it probably was used behind a mainline-certified loco.

Bradley Manor's tender I'd assume. Returning from Swanage.

 

It may have been the tender from 7802 "Bradley Manor" as the loco had visited Swanage recently

 

Yep thats 7802's 4000g tender

Presumably either at Swanage or the SVR or en route between the two - you wouldn't get a loco and tender on one lorry so it'll either be on another truck or be moved before/after this trip.

 

I can assure everyone that the pictured tender does NOT belong to 7802.

It belongs to 3205 which is visiting the SVR for it's 40th aniversary gala weekend as an honoured guest (since it was the first engine to work the SVR as a preserved line).

It arrived at Kidderminster before the loco itself. 3205 arrived several hours later (City of Truro arrived inbetween the arrival of 3205's tender and 3205 herself). Please excuse the picture quality - was taken in passing. Tender was in the yard at the time the photo was taken.

 

I would be suprised if its 3205's tender. It looks more like a tender that a Manor would use plus the yellow sticker is the registration details for running on the mainline which 7802 has done in recent years.

 

It definitely belongs to 3205. Is coupled to it now. Passed Kidderminster station earlier - she was head to head with City of Truro.

Will pop into Kidderminster/Bewdley tomorrow to see if it's around to get a shot.

The tender had already been unloaded by the time I got there and the team dealing with the arrivals used 47749, which had arrived earlier with D6737, to shunt the tender out of the way so that City of Truro could be unloaded.

 

Andy, I’m afraid your very much mistaken, that is definitely the 4000 gallon tender from 7802. If you look closely you will see the tender in question is Lined green with a large BR crest. 3205s tender is unlined with a small crest. Not to mention the mainline running warning flashes that Matt has already pointed out.

I would recommend you get your facts right before you start assuring members what is correct.

Easy way to distinguish that its 7802's is that it hasnt been painted for ages and 3205's if freshy repainted as its just come out of overhall

 

Sorry, but it's 3205's tender.

7802 was sat in the station WITH TENDER whilst 3205's tender arrived and was unloaded. I passed the SVR earlier and they'd coupled it to the loco.

Furthermore, the photo's I took (shown in my previous posts) show 3205 sat in Kidderminster station car park. Her tender arrived first and was unloaed first. That's how it is. Wish I'd taken a pic from the bridge, since (as noted) 7802 was sat in Kidderminster SVR station whilst 3205's tender was being unloaded.

I was there. The tender that arrived by road was unloaded and attached to 3205.

I can assure you that the tender in the picture is 7802's ive seen it enough times at bewdley as a cleaner to be able to tell now, 3205's is a lighter green than 7802's which is a dark brunswick green as it hasnt been painted for the past 10-15 years so has faided and look awful.

 

7802 was sat in Kidderminster station, with tender, whilst the tender in question was sat on the low-loader.

 

The photos of the tender on the low loader were taken on Thursday 16th September. You saw 3205 being delivered on Tuesday 21st September. It wouldn't take 5 days for a tender to be moved from Hagley to Kidderminster!
