    Steven,

Thanks for this. I had a good day today, despite the rain. Thanks to all the crews for keeping things moving whilst getting so wet!

Best wishes for the rest of the weekend

I had a good day there yesterday, despite the endless rain! Apart from a couple of delays, which were easily clawed back at station stops and some good runnning, everything seemed to go to plan. Well, except for the goods, which left Grosmont with 53809 on the front, banked by 825, and promptly stopped outside the tunnel blocking the level crossing for nearly 10 minutes before being dragged back into the station.

By the way, can you keep 34070? Even though it was raining it didn't seem to struggle, although I did hear a rumour that it had run out of sand after one round trip! The 14.50 from Grosmont was fantastic. Load 8 with 53809 on the front, and you couldn't hear the 7F!

Please remember the SLL Photo Competition. We had a good selection of entries from Manston's trip to the SVR last week, and we're hoping for lots from this weekend's visit to the NYMR. Details here:

Throughly enjoyed my visit on Friday, shame the weather went down hill by mid morning.

Good to see 69023 on station pilot duties.

Echo previous comments about the performance of 34070 (I believe Mr Fletcher was on the regulator), great run up the bank with it.

Good bonus of 53809/34070 doing an unadvertised full round trip.

Well done once again all involved in putting on the gala.

    Shame I couldn't make today.

    Best Regards

Just recovered from by 250 miles round trip yesterday (saturday) with sunny weather for most of the day aswell
I vastly improved gala over the spring gala were every thing seemed to run today although slightly behind due to Tornado stopping at Eller beck.
Would have liked to see some shuttles from Levisham but apart from that it was a great gala !!

    Well done NYMR !!

Very good day (sat) train's full. Line side littered with many photographers. Good double heading combinations. Shuttle Pickering levisham would have been nice. Why doesn’t this happen any more?!?! Shame about the weather in the latter half of the day.

Thank you very much to all who put their efforts in to making this Gala so wonderfully enjoyable.

With so much in steam and with such variety it was a joy to see and ride behind despite getting wet Friday and wet again Sunday.

Some still pics may follow eventually.

    Excellent selection of photographs from this great gala everyone. Thanks to all at the NYMR who worked so hard to put on a great display over the weekend, despite the bad weather on Friday and Sunday. My video compilation from the weekend can be found here;

Hardly sneaking admiration. The NYMR engineers and crews loved 34070 so much that they want one of their own. It has gained a new nickname... If City of Wells is "The Volcano", Manston is "The Machine Gun"

With the amount of ash she was sending out at SVR I wont diagree with that one! I resorted to wearing shades whilst riding behind her then lol. There was a few of us who visited SVR and said it seems she wants City of Wells title of Volcano, as she knows how to put a performance on and for a Bulleid she is rather noisy.

What a great weekend despite the rain.

Thank you to roger, Jim and there welcoming team from the LNERCA, Nice sociable group.
Glyn and I worked in the Gresley buffet, the Ryedale bar and the GN saloon to help raise funds,(I hope we did them proud) We both enjoyed ourselves making teas and coffees (the way we know how, silver service) and keeping people warm in the wet weather. We will go back!
If any one has got some good pics or videos of us popping our head out the window let us know :) , nice engines and nice views x

The thing that stood out for me was when Tornado turned up first time with the teaks at Pickering and promptly did a minor Blue Peter impression in the station when it for some reason went into a massive wheel slip like the one that destroyed Blue Peter's valve gear at Durham back in '94. I'd heardit was psooible a case of a "sticky" regulator orperhaps the boilor being too full and the water surging coursing Tornado to prime. Luckily the driver got things under control pretty quickly.

What's more glad the pair of you enjoyed yourselves glynsgirl over the weekend on the train, pity I missed seeing the pair of you off "home" this morning. Quite agree things can be hectic when you're there sevring tea, coffees & biscuits, but "fun" none the less. Quite a change from being locked away in the restoration shed, as you tended to find out what the "great unwashed" travelling public think and their suprise when you give them an idea of the costs involved whit coaches. No wonder these days it 's more and more common for the "Watermans" of this world being the only folk who can afford out their own pockets to restore etc engines & rolling stock.

Can I not only add to Sorge Station's thanks but also extend them to him and Pete, who were still in the Control Office late each night before and during the Gala changing loco and crew diagrams to take account of ongoing changes to what was available, as well as spending hours in the weeks ahead trying to ensure that the Gala was something different - and most of the comments I have seen showed that they succeeded!
