Anyone got any recent news on Tangmere please?

I'd like to go on the SD Kent Battle of Britain trip behind a Battle of Britain. But reckon what with the need for finishing the work, (especially now we are in the holiday season), then test runs etc, reckon time is slipping away on that one.

I do like Black 5s a lot, (sorry to speculate that's what could haul the train), but would rather not travel behind one on that particular train.

There was supposed to be something in this month's Steam Railway regarding Tanger's repairs but the only hint is in an article about the Dorset Coast Expresses saying she's expected back 'imminently'.

She is still showing on uksteam.info as showing on the Battle of Britain memorial train for the 15th of September. I often wonder why there is no website with updates on the loco? I wonder if she is close to being finished and the FTR exam coming up soon? i am going to keep my eye on this one.

A snippet from an email I got from Steam Dreams today.

This year has seen some significant challenges with failures amongst the locomotive fleet, but we are pleased to report that slowly the number of engines becoming available is increasing with Tornado back operational and Tangmere expected shortly.

I was speaking to a chap at Sherburn about 2 weeks ago? Can't remember now who knows the people who own 34067 and he said it's expected to steam very shortly and should return for a further 5 years?

So near continuous running from 2002 to 2015. Which is pretty darn impressive.

Very good news about Tangmere. Thank you.

Sorry, even the mention of BSWs is now banned. Let alone images of them.

Back on topic, a bit of info regarding a test run would be useful. I haven't seen Tangmere on the mainline for a couple of years. Even better would be a railtour up here before she returns down south though if she is doing the B of B on the 15th of September I can't see that happening.

Thanks for any info in advance, Neil.

Good grief, Neil! Are you in danger of becoming a closet Southern afficionado?!? Seriously, the moment 34067 or any other Bulleid starts working up north, I'll try my damnedest to get there. They are the only class of locomotive that I won't mind going over 'foreign' territory for (although I did have 71000 on the South Wales Mainline and 70013 and 44871 down to Penzance, although I don't mind that too much. Its only when we start getting 61994 doing specials to Milford Haven that I'll start thinking that its getting too easy to spot mainline locomotives that I've not seen before...).

True, but since it has been in Mr Riley's ownership, I think that 45407 can probably beat it...?

well its been confirmed that 44932 is hauling the 15th september train, as for Tangmere, when I mentioned about rumours of it steaming again imminently, the reply was "keep dreaming, come back nearer Christmas".

No surprise, and the early notification is very welcome indeed. Thank you.

The Black 5s are my favourite non SR loco, but I won't book on this train now. I'll wait for 34067 to get back on the main line.

For me that train needed to be a B of B for full impact. But I guess that is a Kentish Man, (whose mum was in the ops room at Biggin Hill during the Battle of Britain), wanting perfection. But if I am around here and not struggling up a Welsh mountain I'll go out and pay my respects by photting it.

And waving to the on boad BSWs!

6201 is now shown as doing the Cath. Exp. to Bristol and Bath on the 7th October, instead of Tangmere.

thanks Andrew, sick of looking at it, last time I saw it was a few days since, that shiny black section only appeared fairly recently, but there was a veritable graveyard of boilers and bits of boilers to the left of your pic, in fact the one you can see is reputed to be from FR20, the rest of it is in the shed at Haverthwaite, also a Bagnall from there is reputed to be getting attention, from where you were standing you can just see a front cab plate to the right, in green, with round spectacle windows, could be the bagnall. finally, a little further to the right sits Tangmere's cab, not visible from that location, but if you go up the steps to the overbridge, you can see it , just , if there's nowt in the way, best through binoculars. been there since beginning of the year.

Heritage Railway are suggesting she may be available for tours this side of Christmas, I guess we will have to wait and see. Do you think with the amount of work done she will come back with a new 7 year ticket?
