    Well today is 10/10/2010 and this gala gets a 10/10 from me also - Must have been well over a 100 photers at Kinchley lane by mid afternoon when I left

    Excellent gala - nice mix of road, rail and traction engines at Quorn and an excellent selection of real ales.

    The best news is that Steam Railway is in the process of changing editors - let's hope we get someone grounded in railways.

    Guys, Note that the bridge over the railway south of Quorn is actually Rushey Lane, not Kinchley Lane. So far as we know Kinchley Lane was made for the purpose of constructing Swithland Reservoir. Rushey Lane is the road name at the Brand Lane (western) end of the road we're so familiar with, which was submerged by the reservoir. As you leave the bridge to go towards Rothley, there is a gate at the bend before you descend to cross the reservoir dam. Beyond that gate is the line that Rushey Lane followed down to the resevoir. Old maps pre-1896 clearly show the line of Rushey Lane which continued to Swithland Road (at the Quorn/Rothley end), indeed there is a short stub of Rushey Lane just north of the Kinchley Lane junction.

    whatever it is truly known as , everyone has referred to it as Kinchley Lane for as long as I've known it , and mention it and everyone knows exactly where it it and the photograph available from it

    It was good to see so many (as reported above) rising to David's challenge and over 100 it is suggested went to that location !
