D2178 at Gwili

Hi all -

For those interested, Cl.03 D2178 will be out tomorrow (Wed 20th Oct) at the Gwili, top-and-tailing trains with a steam loco. An adult rover costs £6, and departures from Bronwydd Arms will be at 1115, 1245, 1415 and 1545. This is a good opportunity to get the 'line-in-the-book', if you missed it at the Diesel Gala!

The 03 will be attached to the South end of the train all day (ie leading from Danycoed). The steam loco on the North end is booked to be RSH 0-4-0ST No.7058 "Olwen".

Please do pop along if you can - enthusiast support is always welcomed.

I'd like to come Phil, but primarily for Olwen, I've had the 03 a few times. Unfortunately I have to work though.
Is Olwen likely to be out at any other times?

 

Olwen will be working most trains for the rest of the year as Haulwen requires repairs. If you want to ride behind Olwen it is best to check on the day (01267 238213).

Thats good to hear. As Matt says, "Olwen" is booked to work all services this month, including the half term service; ie 20th (top and tail with D2178), 24th, 26th, 27th, 28th, and 29th Oct. "Haulwen" has only one booked duty this month, working a Celebrity Diner on the evening of Fri 29th (prebooked tickets only).

If you're travelling especially to ride behind "Olwen", its probably best to ring in advance, just to doublecheck that it will be in steam.

Do say 'hello' if you pop down next Wednesday (20th). I will be the guard, and 'svr-rodgers' from this forum will also be present on the footplate...for his firing exam (wish him luck)! If you come down, does that make it some form of unofficial "Nat-Pres Special"...?

Any idea about next week, half term? My 3yo daughter hasn't sampled 03 haulage yet! I enjoyed Olwen at Gotherington in June, in someone's garden!

Over half term week, "Olwen" is booked to be working all its trains 'solo' - 24th Oct, then 26th-29th.

D2178's next outing on passenger workings should be for the Santa Specials - where it usually top-and-tails with a steam locomotive, on the South end of the train. Would your 3 year old enjoy a visit to Santa, with some cl.03 haulage in for the bargain...?

If you come down over half term, do say 'hello' - I'm guard on the 27th. It'd be good to show you around.
