The first passenger train out of the newly reconnected Moor St. terminus platforms will be steam hauled by 5043 Earl Of Mount Edgcumbe.

I hope some of VT's exertions this year are paying off, i normally do about 3 tours a year, with some of the 'exciting sorties' cooked up this year i think this will be my 6th, first steam out of Moor St is a biggie anyway and i've wanted a GWR machine into Paddington for a while.

Not just first steam but FIRST passenger train.
And don't forget the last steam out of there was 7029 Clun Castle so it will be quite poignant.
And it's worth saying that it's all thanks to close cooperation between a TOC (Chiltern) Network Rail and WCRC.
As I keep banging on about....there is no 'them' just us.

What's happened to the Bristol trip with Rood Ashton Hall the same day? I was booked on that.

We were advised on yesterdays trip, that it has been cancelled, due to Vintage trains being asked to operate a train out of Moor Street on this date.

I'd imagine the Moor St trip would of had no choice but to be that date if it was to be the First train out of the Terminus given Chiltern are likely to start operating a service as soon as 5043 has gone so no room for manouvre with that one.

The Bristol trip may just be postponed if it was selling well, i'd wait until you get the letter confirming what's happening personally.

Nick, Sorry if you have not received our letter regarding this trip which was sent out on Thursday.

We basically had to cancel the trip to Bristol at the request of WCR because of operational indigestion at Bristol which has been compounded by the temporary (hopefully) ban on steam in platforms 3 and 4 at BTM due to someone erecting ducting along the platform wall which apparently fouls the lower structure gauge. Almost concurrently with this rather disappointing news, came a request from Chiltern to run some shuttles from Moor St as the opening had now been confirmed, so we decided that the best thing to do with the train was to run it anyway but turn left at didcot instead of right! A Bham Paddington seemed appropriate to celebrate the return of Moor St as a terminus, and hopefully those passengers (you) who have booked in good faith will view the trip as an acceptable alternative. If that is not the case we have offered the usual alternatives of a transfer to another train or a refund. This is all in our letter which you should hopefully receive tomorrow at the latest, but if not ccontact the office and we will forward another copy.

We may yet start the train from Warwick Road, in which case you get to be pulled into Moor St by 9600, which should be on display there all day for Chilterns opening day gala, all before the main act sets off for London. Obviously plans on this are still at an early stage, but keepp an eye on the VT and Chiltern websites for updates.
    Regards Bob

This certainly is an interesting excursion and one I hope to ride on.
However as I've not been to/through Moor street for quite a while I was wondering what has happened to 2885. Is it still there or has it been reclaimed...
    http://clive-hanley.fotopic.net/p12282309.html
If the ecs are pulled in by 9600 and 2885 is still in situ it will make a trio of steam locos in the 'new' station... Couldn't ask for more... Can anybody shed any light please?

2885 is still there saw it last week. Seen as that platform isn't being used even now looks as though it could be there for some time yet!

The road that 2885 is on has yet to be connected to the mainline.

It will remain in the platform until we can get it out!
