Hi, can anyone help, when I rush down to Crofton after seeing the train around the Bracknell area, where should I park? Opposite the Pumping Station, or where? I see the Pumping Station is now closed for the winter, but is it possible to cross under the line there? I'm after the classic north-east facing "canal in the foreground, train in the centre, pumping station behind" location, and I've never been there :)

I don't want to end up driving around looking for the place, as it's going to be a race against time (and against The Duke!)

    Steve,

Take the road going south-west from Great Bedwyn to Crofton. As you get to Crofton, the road bears right at a junction, but take the left fork, which is a small road leading up to the line at a pedestrian crossing point. Park somewhere in there. Walk uphill to the line and go across it, then go across the canal. Turn right on the canal towpath and go along to the next lock, which is at the pumping station. The shot you want will then need you to go from there into the field (i.e. turning south opposite the pumping station). It's five minutes walk from the car to the lock, so ten minutes will give you enough time to set up the shot. Hope it goes well!

    Graham

Thanks Graham. I can see that all on Google Maps, really appreciate the help.

I suspect I might be one of many in that field if the weather is OK. Though some rain is forecast and not much chance of sun :(

There is a small council run car park behind Crofton pumping station.

Hope you get the shot you want.

I went for the reflection shot of Tangmere in the canal on Feb 14th. I might have been in the foreground of the shot from the hill.

Had a friend waiting at Clapham and messaged me at 9.40 to say she had only just passed through so give or take 5 mins for the message to be sent, she's about 30 down already.

Will report from Colthrop crossing with more info soon.

Gave up waiting between Earley & Reading around 11:00am as had to go back to work.
Think I'll give up trying to take pix of it on the mainline as tried seeing it in Devon on the Torbay's this year ended up seeing a 67 & the other time 6024 !
Don't think I'll bother tonight as knowing my luck it will be late again or end up going back up through Twyford & I'll be at Earley, And that's happened before !

Anyone know what happened to 71000? Waited at Theale & got a text saying it was 45 min late at Bracknell double headed with a 67. Don't know which loco was on the front so gave up & went home. Wasn't going to hang around 45min to see a 67 leading. Will keep tabs to see what happens as to whether I go out tonight.
Edit, just had a call saying it has gone through Theale, 11.35, 67 behind 71000 but sounded if it was doing some shoving. Don't know why as this is a flat well used section. It seems now, that no steam tour is now immune from box infection.

Thanks to everyone for the updates. I could not tell if the 67 was working but as it was just a couple of minutes in front of the stopper to Bedwyn it could of been used on the climb out of Newbury. Must of been standing right next to you Tom. Here is my effort on the straight into Kintbury.
