Thanks for posting those shots David, the Sunday would have been fabulous for shots at the pond you were at, the sun was just right in the morning, and again in the evening for golden glints... almost a shame I was on Bellerophon! Hopefully with the line freights more photographers will take advantage of them next year and find some new locations.

Going back to the discussion about visitors paying and protecting th railays revenue,
Would it not be an idea to negotiate with the farmer as to whether or not the railway could have use of a small area of the bottom of his field for the gala.
to the far left of this,
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/d9006/5107351541/in/pool-railway/

Instead of using the Colloiery entrance maybe this copuld be closed and entry could be through the farmers gate into the field.
people would pay on entry from either their car window or on foot, this would mean there is only one overall place needed for buying tickets. There would also be ample room for carparking unlike in the colliery site and without getting in the way of photographers alike.

The Guests could then walk from their vehicles into the colliery through the gate or up the bank as they please.
Ofcourse it depends what the landowner thinks! and the railway.. The only downside I see is if the field is wet.

Also that tempory fencing you get would be an idea around some areas. At CR during the summer gala, some people were gaining access via the field, through the trees near the caravans and across the yard. this could be discouraged of a tempory fence was placed from the new messroom area. towards the footpath the length of the tree line. and around the back of the signal box. there seems to be a fair bit of this fence at the back of the colliery platform and in the compound area.

No, the winner of the clag award belongs to Hawarden. She has rested long enough - time to wake her up.

Without doubt some of the best photos I've seen from the gala were taken on the Sunday, see here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/38136824@N08/5126238726/. Obviously the weather was better, though the sometimes miserable conditions on the Saturday certainly gave atmosphere to those industrial scenes - here's one from the photo charter: http://www.flickr.com/photos/93173492@N00/5117813970/. A big thank you to David Fletcher for organizing the charter and I look forward to attending the next gala.

Yes those pics from the Sunday show why an autumn gala is such a winner. The only difference needed from the summer gala is that fantastic light. Now if only Saturday was like Sunday!

PS I agree Hawarden takes some beating with lots of clag and a great sound.
