    Re: 6100 Royal Scot..Progress 2010.

I have removed a couple of posts from the thread as one comment was going over old ground that had the previous thread on 6100 removed and the other was a reply to the first post.

The thread is for progress with 6100.

    Thanks, Neil.

Latest news in the new issue of Heritage Railway is not good. Further problems have been found with 6100 (a crack in one of her cylinder covers) which has put her return back even further.

cylinder cover? do you mean the front casting? well thats not good news,
it does make you wonder though, with the long list (and getting longer) it would seem there are still un answered questions about what went on at Southall given the ammount of money thrown on this engine, and the time taken , i dread to think on what the final bill is going to be, and what else is waiting to be found lets hope that this is the last set back ,also now that a certain ex trustee is no longer involved, can she be put into the proper maroon livery please

It's a hind cylinder cover that is cracked.

If you watch videos of 6100 at the WSR and LR there seem to be alot steam leaking from the vacinity of the rear cylinder covers, unless it was the piston packings blowing?

A lot more complex - and expensive - than a front one, then. Wasn't 46115's rear cyl cover damaged in its incident? If the cylinder covers are the same ones there might be a pattern available.

The patriot group reckon it'll cost them £2mn to build a patriot.. have to start wondering how much it would have been to have built a new scot instead of repairing this one.

Now its funny you should say that.....! I received my email newsletter from the LMS Patriot Group yesterday and I did think that "The Unknown Warrior" was actually starting to catch up! The driving wheels are being cast and a number of "heavy" items are being produced and machined at present with lots more in the pipeline. There is of course the mere "cough" matter of the boiler but, at this rate, the new Patriot will be with us before too long. I must raid the piggy bank again. Please do so too (your piggy banks, not mine that is!) after all, it is Remembrance Sunday soon.

Or even put a parallel boiler on the chassis they have?

Just out of interest, anyone know if 46100 is going into BR green at any point. The present vermillon livery (it's not dark or purple enough for crimson lake) is awful.

I would think that the colour is the last of the priorities at the moment.

Hmmmm, 'The Unknown Warrior' or 'Royal Scot', which one will be running on the main line first, at this moment in time I'd rather bet on the patriot, at least with a new build you know what condition it'll be in.

As we have one green Scot on the main line currently, I can't see the point of incurring needless expenditure in creating a second one.

Don't see why not if there's enough work for them; 46115 in green with late BR logo and 46100 in green with early BR logo, plenty of variation. At least it's not yet another GWR clone.

I was refering to the cost of a repaint into green, not that there shouldn't be another Scot on the main line.
