An update via the text service says there was no stop at Brighouse for water at 17.32.

I must agree with Chris's comments earlier and welll done to all in sorting out the last minute problems to allow the tour to go on.

    Neil.

Regret not being able to video the tour as planned. But hats off to all concerned, from the loco crews, loco owner and support crews. Wcrc, network rail and rytc, I and many others raise a glass to you. It really shows what the mainline steam movement is made of when the chips are down. Cracking job chaps.
    Regards,
    John.

Thanks John, considering the conditions it's better than I hoped for.

Couple of great videos from Miles Platting, and I see the sun didn't trouble you at Penistone Austin.

Just got home and yea it was rather a fraught day.
Arrived at Preston 8.40 to fins that we were going to be rerouted and then a few minutes later it was confirmed. After the majority of passengers had boarded at Manchester explained to my coach what had happened and which way we were going. There were one or two who wondered why we could not go via macclesfield and Stoke, more engineering work had put paid to that idea. Anyway all quite happy about it. Plan C came into effect with a water stop at Denton.
Managed to get through a middle road at Crewe without stopping, the usual bemused people on the platforms as we cruised through. Nice steady climb up Madeley Bank and straight through Stafford. By this time it was realised that we were going to be well late by Sheffield so plan D swung into action and we were informed that we would take the direct route after the Brighouse water stop via Rochdale back to Manchester.
We had to wait at Sheffield to take the same time slot + 2 hours so left there just before 4pm. Ran the rest of the way to Brighouse keeping to the schedule. Very brief stop there where it was decided that water was not required so we set off for the final stage back to Manchester where we arrived only about 15 minutes down on the original timing.
After we had left Brighouse someone from RTC decided to make a collection for Bill to be presented to him at Manchester before the locos were pulled off.
A very short presentation, of what I believe was a quite reasonable sum, was made to Bill and people were calling for a speech, fortunately, Albert, in charge of the pilot, got the all clear and pulled away, probably to Bills great relief.... I understand that this was possibly his last passenger working, unless RTC/WCRC have something up their sleeves. But I am told that he may be doing the Britannia test run this next week.
To finish thanks must got to everyone involved with the frantic replanning that must haver gone on in order to ensure that the tour went ahead albeit, a bit different than intended but actually quite a few miles more. Network Rail can sometimes do the right thing.

Was on todays trains, coach D, enjoyable day, despite the operational problems. Some very brisk running from Crewe to Derby, and Brighouse onwards through Hebden bridge, blink and you'd have missed it.....

Had a chat with the guy who had helped with the collection on the way back from Man Vic to Preston. He said around £500 raised, which is a tidy sum!. He also said it was his last passenger turn, but he is scheduled to do a light engine test trip early this week, so presume it must be Britannia. Anyway thanks to all, RYTC, WCRC, Network Rail, Rileys crew, for a bit of a Tin Bath Mystery tour!

Thanks to everybody for all the updates on here, (without which I would not have been able to decide where to see/film the train)'
Also the interesting pics and videos plus the report by Ralph.
After being on it last year knowing what was going on was a must.

A short clip is here from Dodworth = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IhtyupNWqo

Ha ha, not today Stuart, like the train that shot was actually 'plan c' for me today. A lovely photo from you, as usual.

I was tempted to chase this one myself, good job I didn't as I hadn't spotted the time changes, also did it not go via edale, as that was where I had planned to catch it. Instead I went KWVR and on the way back passing penistone I just happend to be passing when she went past. Nice job with the photo's and film footage, if I known they were going to be that late I would stopped , had all the gear in the boot.

Hat's off to everybody involved in making todays run a reality!

We just captured it at Penistone, the low light certainly did make a rather atmospheric video. Video coverage on the 2010 Mainline DVD.

It's good to know that everyone appreciated the updates, I must thank Neil for being on the end of a phone as there were times when the information needed an explanation, and a text update would not have worked as well, so he was there to translate and post here. I believe that is where this forum scores, with both the on line and text updates keeping everyone knowing what is happening. How many wasted journeys and fruitless waits did it prevent, and how many were waiting in vain on the Hope Valley or gave up waiting at other places as we were so late?

Very well done to all for salvaging a good day out of what could so easily been another cancellation. I seem destined to never get up Copy Pit though, after 2 failed attempts behind 46115 and now this! At least I did get a steam run out this Autumn, after the Caledonian Tornado got cancelled (I used the money saved to go table lamp class, being served tea and pastries made a change from my usual thermos and pastie)

The whole thing had the air of a proper mystery tour, though of course the revised route was well spread by the stewards, though the enthusiasts grapevine had already beaten them to it. The Mrs couldnt believe it when I rang her from Derby station, which was a shadow of what it was last time I was there. Some good thrash later up the bank from Barnsley, a couple of slips were very expertly held.

Bill Andrew seemed pleasantly bemused when presented with a bag of cash and a round of applause at Man Vic, he didn't know there had been plotting afoot in the coaches.... I believe he gets to give 70013 a test run yet, but this was scheduled as his last passenger run.

You're safe for the next two weeks David, I'm going to put the mockers on "Bittern" on Saturday, (which is also the thirteenth) and then "Tornado" next week. :photo:

Don't you dare put the evil eye on Tornado, I am thinking of putting on a disguise :spy: and going up to Edinburgh for the run back to Crewe. There are those who would really take the proverbial if was seen behind her....
