You can either pre book tickets via the MCR website: www.mcrailways.co.uk or buy them on the day. All information on ticket pricing etc is on the website.

Regarding this, does the £5 fare for day rover ticket holders cover a Sunday rover? Can't make it up til late Saturday but will be on the trains all day Sunday, so £5 for the 12 coach run would definitely tempt!

The website says "Saturday Rovers only", but it's a good point and I hope they would allow this. The Bodmin & Wenford Railway did something similar for me a few years ago when I couldn't make it until late on Saturday, but they allowed me to use a "Sunday" day rover on the evening trains on Saturday.

    A couple of questions;

    1. Will lineside passes be available for the CVR section of the line?
    2. If so, will they be available at Froghall or Cheddleton or both?

Best bet would be to phone the MCR number and ask, I would like to think that they would let you!

Re: Churnet Valley Railway& Moorland & City Railways Cauldon Lowe Branch re-opening G

I've just received the disappointing news that lineside passes are NOT available for any part of the railway during the gala.

This was the reply I got...
    Dear Clive,

We are not selling any lineside passes for any of the gala events I'm afraid.

    Thank you for your enquiry.

    Regards

    John Peake

Thanks very much for that rather disappointing information Clive. Methinks I need to get my maps out!

Thank goodness for that, there won't be fleets of people wearing hi viz vests to pollute the visual impact of this event for the rest of the ticket buying clientele. The best shots are usually from well outside the fence anyway - where you definitely don't need luminous outer wear. I know that photo permits bring in good revenue, but that can be replicated by photocharters to give the bufferbeam and smokebox door enthusiasts their fix.

The Ordnance Survey are now doing free downloads so with a bit of creativity you can soon create your own Stoke / Froghall / Cauldon Low crib sheet

I've been told they are available for the CVR section as well. If not then fair enough but can someone confirm please, yes or no?

Re: Churnet Valley Railway& Moorland & City Railways Cauldon Lowe Branch re-opening G

Last night we took 34028 on a test run to Cauldon Lowe (8 1/4 miles) with 9 coaches and 33021 to drag the train back.

Trains will be running all the way to Cauldon Lowe at the gala.

71000 arrived last night and will be out on steam test/ gauging runs today.

5199 passed its steam yesterday and will hopefully run this weekend SUBJECT to the completion of the necessary paperwork and the few remaining jobs that need to be finished.

I will upload the timetable later today.

    Regards

    Chris

Weather for Sunday looks like it's going to be foul. Saturday's forecast much better but I'm working. :(

Re: Churnet Valley Railway& Moorland & City Railways Cauldon Lowe Branch re-opening G

Chris - You appear to have knowledge of whats going on at the CVR if, as you state, you will be posting the timetable later today...
Can you therefore clarify the lineside pass situation please and provide a full and final decision and explanation?

In #98 - quoted above (I hadn't read that yesterday when I made my enquiry) - you state that lineside passes for the CVR section will be available. In addition a map will be available of the Cauldon Lowe line etc.. (very sensible if I may say so).

However when I wrote to the 'enquiries at churnet-valley-railway.co.uk' yesterday asking about it....
"I am enquiring if a lineside pass is available for the regular part of the CVR for this weekends gala?
I fully understand the need to restrict lineside access to the new stretch of track north and east of Leekbrook Junction for the moment while crews learn the new road."

I received the response from a Mr John Peake (whoever he is) advising me that there will be no lineside passes available at all.

    So what is the plan?

Secondly in answer to the blogger who commented on the fact that he was pleased that there will be no hi-viz's along the track - there are many locations on the CVR that can only be reached by walking along the track so you wouldn't see lots of hi viz anyway except in one or two places only.
