Ahh, just found this thread again. Looks like the mods in their wisdom decided to move it. Would of been nice to be informed of the move, ie a note or something in the original section (General railway chat). Not easy when you look for a thread, especially one you started, & it is not there.

I too have not had my copy of Steam Railway arrive yet. This is the first time I've not had an issue arrive, in the years that I have been subscribing. I had one a few issues back arrive a few days late, but other than that, I've not had a problem.

I phoned up this morning to get a replacement issue sent, and there are even sending a letter to confirm that the replacement has been sent. I was also given the option to have my subscription extend by one issue, as well as the option to have a replacement sent.

Please, please, especially now we have the Steam Railway section back online here can those who clearly do not like the magazine and loudly proclaim they don't buy it please stay away from a thread for those that do buy and enjoy the magazine and wish to discuss it's merits and/or shortcomings. Incidently my issue arrived yesterday. Posts like the above are pointless in my opinion and discourage magazine representatives from listening to us if they are online.

Got a shock today. My SR finally turned up, a week late. Unfortunately there is no posting date on the label. I now have 2 copies as I went out bought one as suggested by Great Magazines. Something has gone seriously wrong somewhere this month as it is a widespread issue & I hope it does not happen again or I will look into it further. As it is I am going to send Great Magazines a rather stroppy email as I think they should thoroughly investigate this.

I really laughed today for finally the magazine turned up and it was the previous issue !!!
Steam Railway really messed it up for me this time. Luckily I had an inkling that maybe I would not get the mag so I bought it at the weekend. I'm going to call them tomorrow to complain loudly and get them to extend my subscription. I am seriously considering not renewing.
Anyway I thought some of the photographs inside were excellent.
    Regards
    Brian

It is delivered in a clear plastic wrap, usually arrives without being folded.

In a see through plastic bag, usually stays flat though. Whilst posting I like to say it is awkward now this thread has been moved as each post is pre-modded & takes ages to appear. Is pre-modding necessary?

Not only pre-modded, but anyone who has anything - no matter how factual to say - about poor practice doesn't get posted.

    Not good enough.

    Actually Frank,
Anything other proper debates and pertinent information, including problems or issues. Will be approved.
The reason for the premod is to stop attacks directed at magazines and their editors. Past or present.

I would have hoped that any editors, etc, that read these postings, would (hopefully) take on board any possible shortcomings that are aired on here.

After all, if they place a product into the marketplace, it makes good sense to get feedback from the customer. I notice that a lot of postings on here are related to poor delivery. This is probably outside of SR's hands. You could probably bet they might ask pertinent questions of the delivery operation, however.

I must confess that I stopped taking Steam Railway, due to the somewhat ramshackle delivery operation. It was sometimes galling to receive my copy some 4 days after it went on sale in the local WH Smiths.

    Regards,
    Ian.

Unfortunately the personal comments IIRC went more than little past the pale and - given that the editor concerned had initiated the thread in order to "listen" to his readership - it was unfair to expect him to accept the insults that were posted. Posters should remember that they have the power of comment and need to temper it with the responsibility of fair comment; unfortnately a small minority couldn't and wouldn't.

Thank you for finally allowing comment on this thread

Forum members will recall that this thread started as a freestanding topic in another section of the forum, before moving into a new "Steam Railway" thread in the "Media" section, and the discussion had turned to whether people still bought any of the magazines on offer in the original context.

We then had a poster suggesting that, in the new context, comments should only be accommodated that were supportive of editorial content and standards as delivered at the news stand.

You are well aware that I, and many others, have valid professional issues why we cannot support fawning adoration, not only of Steam Railway, but of other magazines, as was discussed in the originally located thread, but it appears that people who have such experiences are not allowed to comment following relocation of this topic.

I do not regard that as a satisfactory stance for any objective discussion forum to take, and those modding my posts have seen why I personally take my stance frommyown direct experience.

If the media want to up their game so that they meet, or better, the standards to which readers or contributors should be entitled - then fine, but until then please allow us the capacity to comment, fairly and truthfully, on poor performance, whether it be editorial, colour reproduction, distribution or whatever.

Editors are big boys and can either justify themselves or not, and if they are getting it right won't have anything to fear.

Sometimes Frank, it's not what is posted, but it's how what post has been worded.
Having spoken to many of the editors about this forum, what happened last time put a huge dent in the reputation of this forum.

Constructive remarks are welcomed, as are problems and issues regarding the mags.

I thought it was prudent to put the thread into here, so the staff and I can moderate the thread and close down any personal attacks or posts close to the mark.
What happened last time WILL NOT happen again whilst I am here. And I make that promise to ALL editors and forum members.

I think Glyn's right here. It's not so much what is posted but how it is posted. Discussing mags in their own forum area is akin to a business discussion between supplier and customer, an ought to be carried out in a civil fashion if the customer expects the supplier to respond to the feedback.
