The link states 1 for preservation and 1 for parts.

That also tallies up with trackside talk last weekend.

i mean this in no way offensively but we know they're moving, they've been moving since they left wherever they were based, pics in steam railway showed that so the turkish that someone posted was imho no help whatsoever. sorry.

This link is possibly what is being referred to. However I'm not sure if ADB968008 has read the link in the same way as others might read it. The quote actually says 'Our group proposes to retain 45166. Details of the future of 45170 shall be released in due course.' I don't think you can read that as 45170 being broken for spares at this stage - we need to wait for the details to be released!

Re: TURKISH 8F REPATRIATION NEWS UPDATE

Your entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine and I stick by it. Posting something in Turkish on an English forum probably isn't really helpful to anyone on here, is it?

Re: TURKISH 8F REPATRIATION NEWS UPDATE

Sorry Steve but I have to disagree with you there. I suspect that the post in question was written to drum up enthusiasm for this project which judging by the following posts it is succeeding. I can fully understand the project team wanting to generate as much interest as possible as once the 8f's are back on British soil and located at their future homes then the interest is likely to fade once again. By all means make the most of this opportunity whilst you can even if it does leave a few of us hanging on for the next bit of news! Now I fully appreciate that the post in question isn't that informative, however it's definitely caught my interest and I suspect a few others. Now unless we are closely involved in the project then it is not our divine right to know everything that is going on. All I can say is that if we get 2 more 8f's out of this initiative at the end of the day then its got my full support and best wishes to everyone involved!

    Kind Regards

    Paul

I've found this thread informative and interesting, and I found out a lot I didn't know without it. Thanks especially to 23E and to Bristolian.

As for the quotes above, I think you guys should get over to http://www.iwantanargument.com/ ("The Home of Arguments Online"), your talents are wasted here.... :argue: .... and besides, you're wrong :caked:

Hopefully a good web site with regular updates will keep people interested in this project.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but I read...

And this also matches chatter on the trackside from a few different sources.
Granted we have to wait and see and chatter can be just that.

What happened to bringing back the 3rd one (with the missing rods.. ? )

    Re: TURKISH 8Fs

"As I was actually the author of that item that appeared on the Turkish website .."

That being the case then surely you could have translated the Turkish message that appeared in this thread (which I personally found very unhelpful)? It seems unfair to criticise others when you have done more to help them understand the situation.

I thought it was "Steam Railway" that I picked up in WHS this morning. There is an article and photographs of the two 8Fs in the consist of a freight train as they made their way across Turkey. Tribute was paid to staff at a Turkish shed who had helped prepare the engines for the long jouney by sorting out lubrication, pads etc. Members of the British group doing this repatriation had been able to ride with the engines on the journey to the port, which if I recall the article correctly was a run of several hundred miles.

If this eventually means two useful engines entering into active UK Heritage railway use, then well done to the folks involved. If it is a "restore one and sell one" scenario, then surely there will be takers for the second engine.

    23E,

I am glad you have, in some form, tried clear up the confusion here, It would be, in my opinion, good for you to qualify / clear up your comments elsewhere.
I sent you a pm to your 23E username, hoping we can agree and move on, maturely,

but since then I feel there may be a bit of smoke and mirrors here... and behaviour could be called into question.
I am suspecting you are using more than one user ID in this topic or maybe someone else is using your computer to support (and maybe even arguing with yourself) in some of your posts perhaps ????
