Thought we could do with a thread about steam locos that have been preserved, but pretty much forgotten about.
I'll start the ball rolling with this one.
The Mersey Railway No5 'Cecil Raikes'
I cannot find a picture of it newer than 1988 via google!

Could we include in this engines that have simply been forgotten, whether preserved or not? If I recall correctly, aren't there still three industrials stuck in a scrapyard in Scotland that the owner won't sell?

'Forgotten' by whom? - both the examples so far are fairly well known, the fact that nothing much has happened with them does not mean that they are forgotten. In fact I would suggest that they are possibly discussed more on here than say, the Black Fives at the Colne Valley Railway for instance?

Cecil Rakes is still there and is being cared for. Visits are allowed occasionally.

I do not have any photos of that day but there may be some about. I have a picture of Cecil Rakes' twin in some far flung country.

You mentioned it first... Still at least one loco has come out of there and been steamed.

It really depends on your definition of forgotten! There are many engines that are not widely publicised in the railway media but i'm sure (and hope) that the relavent railways/owning groups haven't forgotten them. Here a are few off the top of my head,

    GWR 9629 - Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway
    SR 102 'Granville' - Bressingham
    SR 30499 - Mid Hants/Bury
    Numerous SR Merchant Navys
LMS 47455 - Midland Railway Centre
LMS 47564 - Midland Railway Centre
    BR 76084 - Privatley Owned
    BR 80100 - Bluebell Railway

I hate to correct you but 76084 is being restored at Ian Storey's premises for use on the NYMR and main line running has been mentioned, Pocket Rocket II!

Perhaps a good definition of forgotten would be not on public view and rarely mentioned in the press or forums. A number of the ex-industrial locos at Carnforth (e.g. Lindsay, Caliban and the Sharp-Stewart) would fall into this category.

Restoration of 76084 seems to be actively ongoing - see: http://www.standard4.com/

Unfortunately, work on the other NYMR-based engine mentioned, 3814, seems to have stagnated.

Manning Wardle 0-6-0 "Newcastle" on a farm near Royston in Hertfordshire where some friends keep their road steamers.

She has not been steamed for many years now and the track has all been lifted.

Not so with 30499 as the tender is being actively worked as I write this in Ropley shed.

The frames are being worked on too in the yard.

Also just to say that there is nothing left now at Bury.

9629 certainly isn't forgotten. There is a regular team of bods working away quietly on the project. They have taken 2 years off, as they were also involved in re-opening the extension down to Blaenavon High Level. A great deal of the missing parts are now obtained, and the frames have had the rear third replaced.

    Regards,
    Ian

Is this the one that was in Stafford Road works?

One for the re-built types perhaps...!
