Right I thought, I'll go out to see that, then I saw the times.... Warrington 21.54, that means getting back home after bed time.. Still sacrifices have to be made, but her indoors might not understand.

I may try Lancaster Ralph but like you say the times are very late . Seems odd when the loco could leave early doors from Carnforth to Crewe . Steve

I heard it is still running and this speculation is all a smokescreen.

If you do go out Steve, an update would be appreciated. Maybe the laste running is due to staffing rather than pathing.

    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

I heard that an audit at Carnforth had revealed a list of circa 50-60 items that needed addressing at Crewe before further main line trials could be undertaken. Hence the move back south.

    Regards,

    Dan

As 70000 hasn't completed it's loaded test and now a list of 50-60 items requiring addressing, is the engine now mainline registered? I am surprised there has been no mention of using a diesel on the move back to Crewe.
    Regards,
    John.

Britannia was turned to face south on the turntable at Carnforth today at 11am, so now its facing the wrong way to go round the the usual test circuit.

Depends, if the number of issues is true, many of them might be "noddy" items but are required to be done to comply with standards, it may also be WCRC acceptence critieria not Network Rails..
Who knows 20 of em might just be "overhead warning" labels and "no smoking" signs ??

whatever it is..one thing is certain.. if it's not safe it wont go and if it's not safe enough to go alone.. it wont.
Brittania's at a slight disadvantage in that it's fresh out of works in a location without a test track to iron it out.
Acceptence testing is exactly that...checking everything before signing off... The trip to Carnforth is just one of those tests, which should be viewed as a success in that it's identified issues and risks BEFORE they become a problem.

Lets hope there is nothing too major and 70000 is soon back on the main line with a full ticket.
I understand it may not be relevant to Brittania, but do DBS do acceptance testing for steam? Thinking of Clan Line for example?

    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

I thought that DBS new policy was to not use locomotives not belonging to them at all, maybe this only applies to charters rather than contractual test runs, I dont know. If Brittania has been turned, is the returning under her own steam?

    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

Before this thread once again descends into rumour and speculation, let me clarify:

The proving run has been cancelled at the owner's request, so that remedial works and, at the same time, fitting of air-brake equipment can be undertaken by LNW, Crewe. Once that has been done, it will undertake a full loaded proving run. The locomotive is currently registered under a temporary certification, as is normal with proving runs (full certification is normally only granted on successful completion), so the loco is perfectly able to Crewe under its own steam.

The primary purpose of 'proving runs' is just that - to prove that the works have been completed successfully, not as a 'test' to see whether the thing works or not. Both 'steam' TOCs are perfectly able to undetaking proving runs, although DBS no longer operate vacuum-braked trains.

    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

As someone has said before it doesnt help that crewe doesnt have a line where they can iron out any issues before an engine runs main line tests this is where engine works such as bury have an advantage, they can run an engine for several weeks or months on a preserved line to get it settled down and sorted before it undertakes a mainline test run, was this the original idea to send 70000 to a near by rail conected preserved line to allow some period of running in first?

    Re: 70000 "Britannia" at Crewe

The foregoing is all very interesting stuff and thoroughly appreciated - however I have not seen any info on what has had to be done at Carnforth (other than some brief comments on gland packings and items/castings needing machining)!

I was at Crewe and saw Britannia return from Warrington late morning and then after lunch saw her set off to Carnforth (with not a little steam leakage from RHS Cyl gland!!) - is it impossible to get a copy of the snagging list of 50/60 items and see the list of works that needed to be done at Carnforth - or is this not possible - I am sure I am not the only one interested - pls advise

Personal opinion is that the full snagging list is a confidential matter between the parties involved. Bear in mind of course that this is a contract overhaul for a private owner; if I employ a contractor to do some building work on my house, I'm not going to let the whole world have the snagging list I give to them!

Do you think they Will use the churnet in 2012 when the mainline connection is in. Its only just down the line. Could be good for both cvr and lnwr.

Well said Mr SHuttleworth, its the facts that should be discussed and not rumours started by doom mongers wishing the project to fail. as has happened in the past over other Loco's
Everyone should be made up about another mainline loco almost ready to run......
