On the video RalfW has kindly linked to, Tornado's nameplate appears to have two words on it - Strong Wind perhaps?

I have since found out that it is mobile phone footage, so that accounts for the unsteadyness. Actual picture quality is pretty good though.

A1 back through Harrow a few minutes early at 21:12(ish). Wound right in, breath of steam, wisping along at least in the high 60s at a guess.

A video of Tornado between Crewe and Beeston Castle on the outward leg and footage of her at/and leaving Chester on the return:

Half past four on a winters afternoon is way after sunset so my apologies for the image of her setting off.

    Re: tornado run today ??

Another excellent run behind Tornado yesterday, timekeeping was exemplary throughout. The 67 stayed at the buffer stops on departure from Euston, no shove along the platform, therefore straight into Camden Bank from a standing start. The best performance was on the return Milton Keynes-Euston 50 mins start to stop for the 50 miles.
The arrangements at Northampton changed from the booked wait at North Junction, to a platform wait, (for right time), at Northampton Station. Some had asked if it was possible to leave the train there, hence the change.
Interesting watering arrangements at Euston in the morning, Tornado detached from the train, ran forward, and then reversed into the west side of the station, to water from a hydrant that looked to be in the vicinity of the Premier Inn hotel. Euston seems to have gone from a difficult station for steam, to one now offering servicimg facilities!. It was all done with impressive organisation.

    Re: tornado run today ??

I remember when I arrived there to see the Duchess leave in July 2004, that the loco was in platform 18 right next to the pallisade fencing with the train waiting in 16. Presumably this is the easiest and closest point to get water to. The timings suggested Tornado had been in Euston since 07:11 (and due to leave at 08:06), and now it seems obvious that this was to allow time for the engine to detach and run over for water - sensibly too as it would have worked up from Hither Green.

Glad to hear it was a good trip and impressed by the 60mph average from the Keynes. Did she use the fasts all the way from MK? I know the slow line was shut south of Watford.

    Re: tornado run today ??

I didn't think Tornado was going via Crewe today!

(Yes, I know the topic is about Saturday's run - but it shows why it's not a good idea to include words like "today", "tomorrow" or "yesterday" in the topic title).

    Re: tornado run today ??

I managed a few shots of it on the outward run.

    http://paulgildersleve.fotopic.net/

In the evening when I returned to Euston from working in London it was just after 10:00pm and Euston station was decidedly smoky! Fantastic, but 'Tornado' had already gone.

    Cheers,

    Paul

I have edited the title to include the date. Sounds like it was an excellent run as well!
