I have a recording off the TV of this episode and one other. I think they're very well put together, certainly I enjoy them. I think the tune at the beginning and end is wonderful, a bittersweet little piece that really evokes the sense of loss we feel for the old railway.

Incidentally is the chap at 01.36 Adrian Vaughan? The voice and the interest in horses would suggest so.

Further to Mike Delamar's reply, it's on the Low Gill to Clapham (North Yorkshire) line, part of the so called Little North Western.

I confess to having taken part in that programme, hauling sleepers at Darley Dale. By gum I was a lot thinner then.

Coincientally watched this programme a couple of days ago on the BBC archive, but not as a result of seeing the thread on here. There's a good number of railway programmes available to view on the archive - worth a look definately. There's a couple of the 'Steam Days' programmes on there too. The one titled 'The fishing Line' describes the steam workings on the Mallaig line in Scotland with Black 5 No. 44767. I remember watching the programme years ago (my age was almost certainly single figures!) and it was what first ignited my yearning to go to Fort William for the Jacobite. Took me until 2006 to fulfill that desire though!

Have watched the first few minutes of the 1st clip and was amazed at the amount of lineside trespass.
H&S & BTP would have a field day with that!!!

But that was the norm, then and nobody really worried about it. In fact, I can remember the last day at Leeds Central and the police actually moved people down the platform ramp and onto the trackside because the platform end was so crowded.
