I have just returned from my first ever visit to the Harz and can now understand what all the fuss is about !!!! Great wintery conditions , loads of action and no jobs worths .
However on the friday whilst traveling from Hannover to Wernigerode we went through the station of Salzgitter Ringelheim and spotted in steam in the yard 41 096 with four coaches . Can anyone tell me which working this was and where the loco is based ? Any info appreciated .

Yes, Germany has much to offer. Indeed an oasis of sanity and an escape from British elfansafety hysteria.

Just did a bit of reading up on the site.. 41096 is based at the Warnetalbahn, which indeed starts the station where you saw it.
There is a 15km standard gauge line which runs ad-hoc, but advertised.
The fleet, in addition to 41096 is an industrial 0-6-0 and a railbus.

41096 is "mainline" approved and does regular charters, I highly reccomend a ride behind the BR41... I had the pleasure of 41360 and 41018 earlier this year !.. I could describe the experience as a Freight engine on red bull.

41s are WONDERFUL machines. I had the privelege of a cab ride from Emden to Rheine in 1969 working an E(ilzug) which was limited to 100 kmh. Being Rheine-based it was an oil-fired loco which provided a memorable experience that was only bettered by the chance to drive 012.066 on the same route some 3 years later.
