Yes I am an active volunteer
On the W&L the loco crew had two choices when operating Nutty (W&L No.5 - recent pictures I have seen of her show that she is still carrying the plates):

    i) Sit and have the gauge glass 10 inches from your face
ii) Stand on the cab steps and present your wedding tackle in the danger zone instead.

It is noticable from old photographs that preferences did differ between crews!

To be fair to Nutty she did play a valuable role in efficiently operating the Llanfair-Heniarth shuttles after the Banwy Bridge collapsed in 1964.

    Kind regards,
    Gareth

LOL, father tells me that he had one go on the road version at 275 in the middle of Warrington, his right knee was only a foot away but the protector diverted the worse of it away.

However he did say whilst picking his nose the day after, he found a piece of glass!

Ant, are you sure it was 250? Sentinels liked a 5 at the end for some reason. Standards and Supers at 235.

DG's at 255 and 275, and S's at 255 (the 275 boiler wouldnt fit, and anyways 275 split the gearbox casing!), not sure what Mr Dobles creation ran at.

Anyways, how on earth do you fire the thing?, you usually drop in coal from above.

P.S the firebox in Mr Walkers S was Nutty's spare. Mr Webster got hold of it.
