Well I think if they can change from a diesel to 60019 within 3 minutes at York then they're obviously doing sterling work... :p

Looks like diesel timings coming back Mark. Usual steam timings from York to Kings Cross are around 4 hours whereas this is 3 hours. Another example of a trip not running as originally advertised (i.e steam both ways)? I was thinking about doing this trip as the approximate timings on RTC's website showed an 0800 departure, which I could have made, but I see it is an hour and 15 minutes earlier now at 0648 which would involve the added expense of overnight accomodation on the Fri. night, which makes the trip too expensive for me at this time of year.

Well yes, good job we booked accomodation otherwise it would of been a 1am start, not a great thing.......

If it is indeed diesel back (hopefully the times will be incorrect/change,but i doubt it) it will mean that there are a fair few disgruntled customers,I could name quite a few whom have booked specifically for 2 A4's,myself being one of them.....wasn't on this tour until Saturday!

From my perspective i don't mind 47s,but if the 57 was to turn up it would make this tour a complete waste of time and money should standard be at the rear on the way up.....

Just as a matter of interest Mark, where did you get those timings from as there is nothing on uksteam yet and RTC still shows the approximate times?

Cheers for that Mark. It's interesting to note that your arrival time at Newcastle is almost the same as the approximate RTC times, even though you're leaving London over an hour earlier! That's 7 and 3/4 hours to get there, yet the return trip is only just over 4 hours and that's an hour less than the approximate RTC timings. Lets hope they are changed and you do get Bittern from York as per the advertised itinerary.

To save any further heated debate, these are not the final timings (certainly not for the return, at any rate). NR's Train Planning System crashed again, yesterday, so no further work could be done.

Don't believe everything that is lifted from TRUST and posted on 'gen' sites.

That was known about a while ago. This is the relevant bit from RTC's tour description: We will be diesel hauled from Newcastle to York and steam hauled from York to King's Cross by 60019 Bittern. Bittern's arrival back at King’s Cross will conclude what promises to be a memorable day behind classic traction over a classic route.

The A4 LS correctly only post details of their locomotive's workings on their website, not what others may be doing on the same tour.

If they are going to use 60019 on the return from York, i would expect your time in Newcastle to be shortened quite a bit.
Same happened to us on the trip to london nearly 3 weeks ago.
And dont be suprised at the almost HST acceleration away from stops, and signal checks on the return from york to London......

When it takes them well over an hour to get 44871 off the train and turned.... even 30 minutes to change locos would be quick work.

I'm think the use of Bittern on the return leg of this tour is quite a recent addition (as it was for The Tynesider a couple of weeks ago), it being a sensible means of getting the loco to/from York where it was required to substitute for the non-available 70000 on The Lincoln Christmas Fayre.

I believe the times for 60007 are about right. The times as far a Holme are identical to last year, a schedule that we kept without problem, but did require 75 mph running in places. After Peterborough the times are faster than last year so it looks to me like we’re booked up the Fast Line over Stoke. The price is a stop at Carlton Loop, but well worth it in my view. Then it’s almost exactly the same path as last year. North of York the schedule is very easy, last year we had a 24 minute late start (on this schedule) and arrived Newcastle on-time including a signal stop at Northallerton. Lets hope a path opens up that give a better conclusion! I hope the weather proves as spectacular as last year but I’m sure that the 60007 team could do without being snowed in at Grosmont when the arrived as they where last time.

Errrm - The schedule was kept without a problem? I seem to remember 60007 was nearly 20 mins late at Colton junction as we rocked-up alongside with 5043!

Made for a great photo opp though! If you could be 20 mins late again this year, it would be teriffic!

    See y'all at Colton!

Nice picture that it made, the London train was 'heavily regulated', last year, on the approach to York, which was actually not the fault of the train!

Up to Holme I said! That is a long was south of Colton!!

The delay was due to frozen points at Helpstone or somewhere near. Anyway I think you're thinking about the Sat 12th (Xmas White Rose) not the 19th (Tynesider).

My apologies - it was the White Rose as our train was called the same!

Anyway - THIS year it will be the Tynesider and our White Rose arriving in York 20 mins apart, so if you could be 20 mins late, it would make for a great photo opp...again!
